Salinity and Temp?
Am I trippin? My memory may be going, but did the tank perimeters change? I remember suggested salinity and temp was 1.023- 1.025 and 76-79 degrees. Now I am reading suggested levels as 1.021- 1.023 and 72- 78. Is this right?

In a fish only, the lower salinity is better, so I agree with those numbers....1.021-1.023, however with
Corals then we need 1.025, or with SPS dominant 1.026, one aquaculture claims 1.027 for SPS. Temp again depends on where your corals came from, some of the Austrialians like Scolymia come from slightly cooler waters, but 72 would be to low IMO.....maybe 76. Since my corals are mixed locations, Indo and Austrialian, I stick on 78 with variance of .5 Like gold locks, not to hot, not to cold. But stability.....IS EVERTHING! |

Crazy. So I have been running high and hot for years. Yeah, I agree stability is more important than anything, but I do want to be within proper range. Looks like I am starting the slow and steady decline. Right now I ma 1.025 and 79-80.

Too low inhibits metabolic growth, too high stress out fish. If you have no corals you can go down. |

Thanks. Now it makes sense. It's not that I have lost my mind, just that the ranges depends on what you have. That's strange that animals that live in the same ocean can have such different needs. I am fish only. I'll consider dropping a little at a time. Thank you.

It easier for saltwater fish to breath in lower salinity so go ahead, you can go down fast but if you ever go upwards, real slow at .002 per day.
Shows your doing your research and asking questions Good! |
