how hardy are xenia
i'm thinking about getting a small colony from lfs before i get my first real coral

Xenia are a tricky coral. They do well in some tanks and die-off in others. Not all that much is really known about this coral. It's hit or miss.

i read they are good nutrient exporters too? does that mean they need a "dirtier" environment to survive?

yes the dirtier the water the easier they grow ask my dad about it.

Good starter coral, IMO. It does fine in most new tanks.
It doesn't do well in shipping though. Usually melts. |

They do well in some tanks and not others. My Copper Banded 'Fly ate all mine. (probably a blessing)
