wave making...

hey, i have a 130gal reef tank currently running a Seio 1100 superpump. I've heard it is beneficial to run a wavemaker. what exactly are the pros and cons, and how should i go about setting everything up? i live in japan, and electricity is extremely high, so economical is always a good route. thanks alot! Jason

im not experienced with wavemakers, but from my understanding...

They are set to run powerheads at different times to provide different flow throughout the day. you can have 1 on, or 5 on, or 3 on (depending on powercords w/ # of powerheads attached).

I recommend checking out Hydors rotationg output dealy. it is almost universally fitting for powerheads and spins in circles to provide current flow and requires no extra power. Figure 5 MJ1200 w/ Hydor on them. Alot of random flow.

The type of wavemaker you're thinking of is probably the kind that turns a pump on and off. It is a device that alternates between two or more powerheads. The Seios are not designed to be turned on and off repeatedly. Maxijets are probably the most popular one to run on wavemakers.

so what would be my best bet using the seio? is there a way to simulate a gentle oceanic wave movement with them, or should i replace?
