Mated clowns?
I have two tank bred clown right now in a 75g- when i purchased them at the store i tried to get the best looking large and small one. I am trying to get them to become a true mated pair which is why i went for the size difference. My question is will they ever become a pair and is there anything i can do to "speed" it up a little bit because i do not want to add another fish to the tank until they become a pair. Also right now they swim in the tank mostly together but every once in a while the bigger one will stray and swim the tank. I thought maybe this was a sign of it taking the female leadership, but they do not sleep together? Should they? Any readings on this topic would also be much appreciated.
Thanks, Mike |

Unless they are married, they shouldn't be sleeping together.

you might find more info on the fish breeding forum. i have a mated pair that i bought much the way you did. they do take awhile to become a mated pair. mine started laying eggs after about a year. you should start to see some of the courtship going on pretty quick though. one clown will tremble at the other, swimming on end. the book "clownfishes" by joyce d. wilkerson is a very good book that i would recommend.

i second that book (clownfishes by joyce) the clownfish anemone forum is a good place to go to with questions also the breeding forum. i've had my blk percs for about 1yr my male lost his female so we got another one, now he's a she and the others a he. i've had the new guy for about 3months i hope they eventually reproduce.
best of luck with your clowns. what kind of clowns are they? |

tank-bred percs, i wanted to get a pair of onyx clowns- but they never ever get them at the LFS and i really do not have the money for onyx yet. Maybe someday in the 10000g tank i am gonna get, hahaha. Thanks for the help though, may go pick the book up sometime and start some reading.
