Question about pre drilled tanks.

Im sort of playing with the idea of upgrading to a bigger tank. Right now I have a 55 gal and am using an hang on u tube style over flow going into a 15 gallon fuge. Of course if I buy a new tank im buying one pre drilled. What im wondering then is if there are holes in the bottom of the tank do the tanks normally come with the fittings for in those holes, then if I buay like a 20 or 30 gallon tank for a sump/fuge, what typeof pipeing do I use going from the overflow pipes to the funge then from the pump back into the tank? Do you just use the flexable pvc piping and those pressure fittings or what?

yeah and as far as what parts you need thats going to depend on how you want to set the tank.

marinedepot.com sells much of the parts that you'd need in their plumbing parts section

What? If you buy a reef ready tank it will more than likely have the bulkheads with it. You then attach a piece of hose or pvc from the bulkhead to the sump. Then all you need is a pump in the sump attached to a hose going back to the return on the tank. My advice is to look around locally and find a reefer that is moving or just shutting down a tank and buy a set up used with the parts attached. If not just get an Oceanic Reef Ready tank. It comes with the kit that you will need.

When I bougth mine it was predrilled and came with all overflow and return fitting that are located in the overflow. The plumbing parts to get me from the bottom of the bulkhead fitting to the sump and from the return pump back to the return bulkhead I had to supply. It either an All-Glass or Perfecto.

It is usually an option as to whether you want the overflow kit or not. Cost is around $50 for the kit or you can make a DIY Durso Standpipe for around $10(www.dursostandpipes.com). The durso is simple to make and reportedly works better than the AGA kit. As far as I know with AGA anyway you get a tank with two holes in it. I have seen Perfectos that include the kit but it is still about $50 more than the tank itself drilled.

it depends if you specify when ordering your tank when I ordered my last tank I only asked for the holes drilled in the back for the return and the size of the whole at the bottom of the overflow I bought all the fittings and rigid PVC pipe at LOWE'S after picking up the tank and plummed the tank myself.

How do you know what size pump you want or does that depend on the size of the tank and/or fuge/sump?
