Tangs Need Your Help!!!

Yesterday, I had 2 beautiful tangs. One kole and the other a yellow. Both under 2 inches, both i've had for 3 weeks. Both were not quarantied. Today I come back home from work and I can't seem to find them. The kole eventually comes out with the yellow and I am shocked to see that they are covered in about a million white spots. Almost as if they were dipped in white flour. They seem like there breathing heavy and they have no interest to eat and the kole is swimming around like a psycho. I believe I have ich, but did not expect it to look this severe.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

use Garlic extract in the food that you feed. They will eventually eat (hopefully).

If it were me I would give them a fresh water bath for about 1 minute or so. and then put them in quaritine and treat them with copper medication. good luck. make sure the fresh water has the same temp and ph as your tank before giveing them that bath.

there is no proof that garlic actually works, but you can give it a try, a QT would be your best bet, and if they do not make it, it is a lesson learned, and hopefully you will be prepared next time, best of luck to you, and when you have some extra time and money, invest in a QT, they are priceless.

You say it looks like powder? Sounds more like Oodinium to me.

Anyone else think this?

Ich is alot different than Oodinium. Oodinium is REALLY fine.

Anyone have pics to show him?

btw, freshwater dips do not kill the ick, just cause the cysts to fall off.... the actual parasites are usually still burrowed deep inside.... I would say just make sure they are eating, and if they are, leave them alone....why stress them out more than they have to be? garlic helped me and so did selecon vitamin supplement.....

my powder brown had ich for a while and 3 days after adding garlic extreme he was fine. No need to take them out. Get a little neon gobie to clean him and uses garlic extreme at every feeding

i will add that my feeding routine would involve soaking the nori in the vitamins and garilic for about 10 min before feeding....they loved it....

I would say if they are completely covered as you say they need some kind of treatment. a fresh water bath will give them at least temporary relief. and if you dont have a quarintine tank or want to treat them with copper. then you can get them eating. a fresh water bath if done correctly dose not stress them too much. I have done this a few times and the fish seems to just relax and lay in the bath breathing for the minute they are in there. if they do show stress just end the bath.

OK...not trying to be the tang police here and I know that you didn't ask, but the size of the tank could be contributing to the cause of the ich by stressing the fish -- not one but two in the tank. To begin with, the smaller size tangs for some reason don't seem to be as hardy as the larger ones.

I would definitely reccomend trying the garlic as well as seeing if you can buy/borrow a UV steralizer.
