Fun at the seafood counter
This afternoon I bellied up to the seafood counter at my local supermarket for a raw shrimp with which to cycle my new tank. Not being a shrimp eater, I needed but a single shrimp. A hilarious conversation ensued:
Me: One raw shrimp, please. Clerk: One pound of shrimp? Me: No, one shrimp. Clerk: One? Me: Yup, that's all I need! Clerk (sticking her hand into the pile of super-jumbo shrimp): Okay! Me (pointing to the small shrimp on sale): No, one of these up front. Clerk (looking at me as if I'm some sort of weirdo): What are you going to cook with just one of those scrawny things? Me: Oh, I'm not going to eat it--it's for my aquarium. Clerk (giving me a smug look): Well, it's dead, ya know! No head or nothin' on it! Me (trying to contain my laughter): That's OK. I'll take it out after a few days. Clerk (rolling her eyes): OK, whatever floats your boat, mister.... She ended up giving it to me for free, as it barely registered on her scale. The wrapping paper alone weighed 4 times as much as the shrimp! I thought briefly about explaining the basics of setting up a marine aquarium to her, but the look on her face was simply priceless! Besides, I figured I gave her a funny story to tell her co-workers during her coffee break. BTW, you can see a pic of my "pet shrimp" in my gallery. T./

haahahah, that is hilarious. I seem to get the same look when I ask for a 1/4 lb of ten different types of seafood for my frozen blend.

Me at Lowe's, I'm looking for some potassium nitrate, then getting looks like I might be a terrorist wanting to make a bomb or something. It's for my fish tank so do you have any?
