Sump NOOB here. **Help**

Im setting up a 100g RR tank right now and this is my first reef tank using a sump. All my other tanks used hang on everything. I have a few questions that are probably very simple to answer but I havnt really seen any sumps plumbed so Im not to sure about a few things.

Here is my the "durso" pipe I think its called?

I have a 1.5" hole drilled in the tank bottom for the overflow.

Now my questions....

I know that you put the durso down the drilled hole but what kind of connection do I use under the tank to connect the pipe to the other pipe? I would like to know how it seals so theres no leaks also.

Also I have a cap on the top of the durso that comes on and off. Do you leave that on or off?

At the end of the durso pipe, there isnt any threads at all. So how do you thread something in from underneath?

Do I just take off that bottom piece shown in this pic and use those threads?

Sorry for all the nub questions but I would like everything explain to me in detail if anyone has time for that .

Use a 3/4" slip bulkhead and place that in the hole in the tank (A standard 1" bulkhead will fit into a 1.5" hole). The snuggly press the overflow into that hole. No need to screw it in or anything. If it leaks around the tube, the water still goes down through the bulkhead into the tubing which SHOULD be securely connected to the bottom of the bulkhead.

In looking at the pics again, the plumbing in your hand looks like it is 1" PVC...I could be wrong.

If thats the case, in order to get it to fit into the 3/4" bulkhead you will need to use a reducing bushing to take it from 1" to 3/4"

The end piece of the tube is 1.5" from end to end and has no threads.

So what would I have to do? Can you find the pieces I need online and send me a link if you can? Im not quiet sure what im looking for.

Any pics of the proper bulkhead I need? Does it just sit in the hole with a washer to keep it from leaking? How do they work?

Leave the cap on. That makes it silent very nice

I use pvc for all of my plumbing, great stuff. I prime and glue all connections. Were i need a junction I use a standard junction from HD.

The bulkhead you need can be found here

If you do have 1" and not 3/4" you will have to reduce it. If it worked in the tank before it will work again.

The only reason you would want to glue the durso into the bulkhead is if the water in your overflow would cause the sump to overflow. It probably won't so I wouldn't glue it.

The rest I would with glue with a few junctions so it can all be taken apart easily.

Thanks for the info, That help quiet a bit.

I guess the pvc piping I have is 1". I was messuring the whole pipe at 1.5" but the actual hole is 1". Can I pick up this 1" to 3/4" reducer at any lowes or homedepot?

Thanks for the bulkhead link, Ill probably order one or two from there.

Is there any certain kind of PVC glue that I need to use? Or is it all the same?

I made alittle diagram of the sump im gunna make. If anyone sees a design flaw, speak up . This will be in a 29 gallon AGA. Im gunna have some glass or acrylic sheets cut out for the baffles and use superglue gel first then silicone over it to keep them in place.

The Mag 9.5 will be pumping 4 feet up 1 foot level and will split into two outlets. What do you think?

you need 2" (or more) between your baffles... they will work much better.

2" it is. What about the baffle in the middle. 1" off the bottom good?
