tank temp
Noobe with 60 gal in northern california. First couple of 85 degree weather sent my tank temp with 4-6 degree swings. Controled with a fan and now top off with 1/2 to 1 gal a day. I'm concerned with the upcomming summer heats which hit 100 plus.
Does everyone in hot areas use a chiller? Recommendation of brand if so. |

Do you have AC in the house? if it is 85 outside, what is the temp inside? if it is 100 outside what is the temp inside?
Point is, the temperature of the room where the tank is means more than what is going on outside My chiller (JBJ Arctic) comes on at 83 degrees 4-6 degree swing is nothing to worry about for most stuff, my tank can swing up to 8 and I do not worry about it as long as it is not instantaneous as in a water change (I match water temps closely for that)

I fought temp for a while. I got sick of it being on my mind all the time. I figured I was going to be in this hobby for a long, long time, so a chiller made a lot of sense. No more worries. 79 degrees every day, every hour. I had to think up other things to worry about!

I ran mine at 79 for a year and slowly brought it up to the 83 about 3 months ago, so far no ill effects. (so far)

If you don't have a lot of money for a chiller than get a cheap AC for your room that the tank is in.
