moon lighting from blue LED fans????

That is the type of LED fan that im talking about. now the questions are.
-do they produce enough light if you were to use say 2 fans on a 30G -also can you have the fans blowing air down onto the water because that's really the only way that they would light up the water well at all.

Any feedback on this idea would be great or any pics of someone that has already done this would be awesome as well.
Andrew

Answer: No. The LED's need to be pointing into the water. The LED's on these fans typically point towards the fan blades to light them up. However, the LED's run on 12v just like the fans do. You can usually easily remove the LED's and if you can find a way to mount them use them seperately. I used a very thin piece of wood and drilled holes the size of the LED's and placed them in there.

if I was going to mount them to wood I would probably just do them separately and wire the leds my self or get a pre done unit. the only reason I say that the fans might light up the water is because when you look at a computer with LED fans in is and a clear case the whole case is lit up blue on the inside. they might just be enough to light up the inside and not a whole tank though. maybe I will see if there are some on display at a store and see how bright they really are. thanks for the input.

How about using some of the cold cathode lights people put inside their gaming computers? Never tried it, but seems like it would work if you kept them clean.

I use 2 of the 120mm blue led fans just like the ones in the picture and they are plenty of light for my 50G tank. I like the fact that they don't point towards the water because I never like the spot light look a lot of moon light have. The two are enough to look like the moon over the tank...

I'm at work now and don't have any pics here. The fans are on the side and mounted in the canopy. The fans/lights are always on, the are very quiet so there is no reason to turn them off.
