What all do you want it to control? The best controller is the one that fits your needs the best and the lowest price IMO.

i agree.

Myself, i am staying away from the marked up price, low capabilitied reef specific controllers and going straight PLC.
i can get an allen bradley micrologix 1100 ethernet ready PLC for a little over 400... and theres basically no limit to what it can do. but, then again, you have to program it, since its not a pre setup reefkeeping unit.

I guess I am lazy I went whole hog and got the AC 3 pro, a bit of overkill I will admit but whoa what a great unit.
I can sit in my hotel while at work get the lowdown on the tank via internet and make adjustments if need be.
My 3 different lights go on and off at different times and it starts an icecap fan on to vent hot air away from the top of the tank when needed.
I am still learning but like what I see so far.

I own a Aquatronica, it's a new generation of controller with almost infinite expandability and firmware Updatable via the Internet.

You can find out more at

www.aquariumobsessed.com

www.aquatronica.com

or check out the Big Aquatronica thread on the forum
