calcium!!!!
I was wondering if anybody could recomend a good type of calcium supplement to buy. I just got 70lbs of LR added to my fish only tank cause I'm looking to turn it into a reef tank, and the guy I got it from told me I should start adding calcium, so I looked up on fosters and smiths, and petsolutions and there's just so many choices I was wondering which would be best to get, because I plan on buying like a gallon of the stuff, thanks.

YOu can make it yourself, if you're so inclined. Look up Randy's 2-part formula, or ask around.
Not having much space for kitchen chemistry, I use Kent products (I believe in sticking to one brand all the way, so as not to run into Issues.) I use Kent Alkalinity buffer and Kent Turbo Calcium. If the levels won't stabilize you need the magnesium supplement as well. Again, the brand of salt you use makes a difference. I use Oceanic. I take it your FO tank is established, and you're looking to convert or move over to corals... In that case get the following test kits: Salifert Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium. Your readings should be: 8.3 to 11 Alkalinity, 400-420 calcium, and 1200 mg, 1.024-6 salinity, 80 degrees. If you stabilize at those marks, and have adequate lighting, you should be able to add most corals you want. Caution on fishes: some are reef safe, and some nosh corals.

Sk8r Salinity 1.024-6; alkalinity 8.3-9.3 on KH scale; calcium 420; magnesium 1300, temp 78-80, nitrate .2. Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low. Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny, royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%. |

Another for E.S.V.'s B-Ionic. It gets a little expensive after awhile, but it works well!

If you don't have to dose much, go with B-Ionic. If you have to dose a ton, save some money and go with Randy's recipie. The only down side to Randy's recipie is that it's hard to find the ingrediants if you live in the south.
