Hair algae in Refugium

I am having an outbreak of hair algae in my refugium only. So far its not in my main display. Should I be concerned?

I know the obvious fix is to make sure my water parameters are in check. My nitrates are testing 0 but I suspect they are elevated and simply being utilized by algae. I am running phosphate remover as well.

If its in your fuge I wouldnt worry about it. Better there than in your display tank.

No need to worry if its in the fuge. Every now and then I get some cyanno in my fuge, but never the display. I suspect is has something to do with the longer photoperiod in the fuge.

how much cheato do you grow before you prune it? Do you let the fuge fill up with the stuff?

It pretty much fills the entire section of the sump it is in. I've been trying to think of some ways to form it into sheets and dry it for the tangs...

what about using a food dehydrator? it would flatten itself as it dried into sheets...

Thanks guys. So far it's keeping itself isolated to the fuge which is lit 24/7 with 130W of PC lighting. As long as it won't hurt my chaeto, I'll leave everything be. Good question, when should I start concerning myself with pruning. The tank is getting pretty full!
