Canister filter maintenance schedule

Hi, I run a Cascade canister filter, usually with a combination of sponge, floss pads, and carbon media.

I was wondering what the best practises were on changing the media, cleaning the canister, etc?

Thanks,
Rob

If you don't mind me asking for a little more detail, how do you clean it? I've just been rinsing out the floss pads and sponge basically.

same here. I take out all the media rinse it down the best I can. Monthly I throw the old media out and put new media in. If im running carbon I rinse and reuse a few times then i chuck it. I have 2 micron cartridges, When I am using them I use for a week and then I let it dry and replace with the other one. They need to be replaced after a while also. HTH

I am on pretty much the same schedule. I empty mine out weekly and rince in new SW. I will change out the media every month. I dont run the normal sponge I run a poly filter in its place. After cleaning everything I fill back up with new SW and plug back in. Try and keep up on taking it apart a couple times a month and rinsing it out. They trap a lot of detritus
