Base rock??

I was told by someone at a lfs that adding base rock to your tank can put the tank through another cycle?? Is this true??

i think it depends on how much. but usually no. ive added a couple of pounds at a time to no ill effect

That's what I thought.. It's like adding a decoration to the tank, I can't imagine it would cause a cycle, but i'm still learning..

Depends upon what 'they' call base rock. Is the base rock completely devoid of any life, or is it just rock that is not as well populated with life as the other rock they are selling? If it has any life to it at all, then yes a small cycle could occur should some of that life die off.

It has nol life at all.... That's why I didn't think there would be a cycle.

If it's dead rock, you shouldn't see a cycle at all. I would still add a little at a time just so the system doesn't freak out

I can't imagine a cycle or any effect whatsoever other than maybe freaking out your fish.
