Are Seios as bad as Rios
We all know Rio pumps are notorious for crapping out, and even starting on fire and even frying a tank. We all know that SEIO's have restart problems, but are they as prone to crapping out and starting on fire?

Haven't seen any Seios that have done it yet, or threads about that.
I think the biggest problem with Seios is their god awful suction cups.

yeah, i have a SEIO 600 and want to get two more SEIO 820's for a future upgrade. I think the Asthetics, price and flow cannot be beat, yeah, they have restart problems, but other than that.
If the power fails, and you dont restart it for a while, will it eventually burn out? It is my understanding that TAAM Makes both SEIO's and RIO's, then how come RIO's are so bad? |

I asked a similar question and the answer was that TAAM apparantly had fixed the problems that Rio was having. I own a Seio and am happy with it. I have heard of some having re starting problems, but with mine, so far so good.

Seio's ROCK, Rios do NOT...
Why are acura's 6-10,000 more than hondas? Better product line. You get what you pay for. SEIO 2600 running over a year without a glitch here... you can use the inbox mounting hardware to hang over back of tank in connection with the suction cups. works like a champ. |

I have a Seio 820 and 2 600's in my 65 gallon.I haven't had one problem with them yet. They always start back up with no problems and are silent.I've had the 600's since they first came out and the 820 about 2 months.

I have two Seio 820's with the magnetic mounts. These are my first intro to powerheads. At first I didn't like them. They seemed to be well designed and constructed but I had some starting problems.
After a short learning process (I had to learn their idiosyncrasies) and they have been USDA Prime since then. And the have started back up no prob either. To hedge my bet however, I bought a thrid 820 just in case I need one in a pinch. Michael |

FWIW, I decided to replace my Seio with a Tunze Nano-stream, based on aesthetics and size (not on cost

theatrus - How cool is that. I want to do the same thing. Not sure when - everything is brand new...... but they seem like a much better machine. Even though the Seio 820's are absoultely fine for what they do and i'm not so sure the tank could tell the difference.

2 seio 620 here and been good to me for over a year now. They had a 50/50 chance starting when I first got it but maybe the ones I have had "break-in" process. since then, I have zero problem restarting them. cleaned one of them 2 weeks ago. too lazy to clean the other.

I love my Seios (820 & 1500). With pumps this heavy there was no way I was going to rely on suction cups, so I ordered two magnet mounts and they work beautifully. I've never had restart problems, noise, or any other issue with these powerheads and highly recommend them.

Now that the Tunze nanostreams are out, why would anyone want to get a Seio anymore.

I have seio's I find them great, I use the plastic bracket to mount them.
For the price of one tunze you could buy about 5 seio's so even if the dont last quite as long they are a real good deal. |
