Adjusting Octopus NW-150 skimmer

My girlfriend gave me an Octopus NW-150 skimmer for Christmas. It's a great looking skimmer and very quiet. I know the skimmer will take a few days to a week to break in, but I'm not sure what I should be shooting for when I adjust the height of the outlet tube. The skimmer has been running for only an hour or so, but it's already producing skimmate. It's only a very light green right now so it seems to be skimming pretty wet. I had the outlet tube at its shortest setting while it was doing this. I've adjusted it an inch or so higher now. Is there a rule of thumb that I can use to dial this thing in? How can I skim dry enough so that I don't fill the cup in 2 days while I go away on vacation? There were no instructions on how to do this in the box.

It's already bottomed out. I'm reluctant to do the gate valve mod as I don't want a bunch of water dumping out of the outlet above the water line. I'm very noise averse, and I'm not opposed to getting my hands wet if I have to.
