Boxing day at the LFS was fun :D

I missed out on many of the LFS bargains last year because I didn't get there on time, so this year I vowed to wake up early and be there when they opened. Half an hour before the doors opened there was already a line. I was a bit surprised to see so many folks out in the freezing rain, but there were some fantastic deals on tanks, equipment and livestock and they sent out flyers advertising the sale a week or two ago.

I grabbed some frozen mysis, cyclopeeze, brine and Prime Reef flakes, a huge jug of Black Diamond carbon and then made my way to the fish room. I planned to get some hermits and snails (bluelegs and Astraeas were on for $1/ea) and ended up going a little crazy -- 15 astraeas, 3 margaritas (I wanted turbos, discovered they'd bagged the wrong thing after I got home), 3 peppermint shrimp and 20 blueleg hermits later my budget was pretty much maxed out. Then I saw the sweetest little face peeking out at me and had to add this little female Genicanthus lemarck angel to my list:

She's in the QT now, exploring her world and looking for tidbits already. I fell in love with Genicanthus angels a while ago when I saw a picture of a G. personatus. They're basically impossible to get and unsuitable for a tank as small as mine (90g), but this little girl should do very well. She may not be the most brightly coloured, but her face and personality really make me smile -- she's the cutest little thing, I already love her to bits

On the way out of the store I grabbed four buckets of salt -- this is what actually got me out of bed so early, IO was on sale for $29.99CD and I couldn't pass that up

This should last me at least six months. Right now it's sitting in the hallway of our apartment, I have no idea where we're going to put it!

Sweet Fish! A lfs around here had one before and he was pretty neat to watch.

Big Al's, right? I went there today also, the one in North York. The line was enormous! The salt is great at that price, and so are the Astreas. They were "pre-bagged." I didn't buy anything though, although I will go again tomorrow, hopefully there is less of a line. It was about 1 hour minimum. I went last year and on the 26th it was packed and all the other days it was like normal. Great Fish Btw!

Hey Lev, nice to see someone else from TO here

I went to the Scarborough store. I'm glad I was early this year -- things were really starting to pick up by 9:30 when we left. I remember the lines at the cash last year when we were there around noon, it was like a madhouse. A friend drove my husband and me to the store and he couldn't believe that people will line up for fish and aquarium supplies!

Thanks for the compliments on the fish guys, I hope she does well. She seems curious about her surroundings and not at all stressed so far. Hopefully some time alone in the QT will allow her to settle in and start eating well without having to worry about any agression or competition from other fish. The QT is right beside my desk, so I'm watching her as I type this. I can't believe how captivated I am -- I love angels of all types, but the only other one that ever made me this ga-ga was my baby flagfin -- losing him after eight months was devastating, I'm hoping this little girl will take his place as our beautiful centrepiece and be just as much of a pet.

Hey, congrats on the purchases. It just so happens that I was at the Scarborough Big Als on Kennedy today too. It was WAYYY less busy that I have seen it in the past. Not really sure why....but hey, it is good for us.

I picked up a couple of buckets of salt, a beautiful Coral Beauty Angel, lawnmower blennie, a nice acro and a nice hydnophora horn coral.

Just curious, how many water changes do you do to go through 640 gallons worth of salt in 6 months on a 90 gallon tank? I am impressed.

Oops! You caught me, I'm so used to calling fish 'him' it's become a matter of habit. I know for a fact that this one's a female, I'll have to get used to saying 'her' and 'she' more often

She was cruising around the QT munching on 'pods last night (I feed the tank even when it's empty so there are quite a few little critters running around). Early this morning she was slowly swimming around even though the tank and room are dark. I sat down at my desk and she came over to check me out. Sometimes I wonder what they're thinking and whether they watch us as much as we watch them -- right now she has stopped cruising and she has spent the last few minutes hovering at the end of the tank closest to me watching me type. Maybe it's the light from the monitor attracting her, or my movement, but it really feels like she's watching to see what I'm doing
