Filters
I am new to this, I was doing some reading on the subject and one author wrote that you should not use a canister type filter on a SW tank? Any feedback?
Thanks!! |

they can be used, just make sure you research your filtration needs and select your filtration media accordingly.

I think the reasoning not to use a canister filter is due to nitrate build up. If you have at least 1-2 pounds LR/gal and use a good skimmer, you shouldn't need a "filter". Your LR is your filter.

Canisters are fine for running carbon, according to a lot of people. That and a GFO are the only media I'd put in one, if I was keeping a reef tank.
