scallop or abalone hitch hiker?
Last night I was watching my tank with only the moonlights on and all of a sudden I see something moving under the sand. As it moved it was leaving a trench in the sand behind it. I waited a few minutes for something to surface and that's when I see what looked like a scallop or abalone (but it was on end moving under the sand). I dug it out of the sand and it was about 1" in diameter and a creamy white color. I watched it as it moved from laying on its side to vertical again. It slowly wiggled down into the sand and disappeared. What is it?
Sorry I didn't get a picture of it. It didn't look like anything special, the way it tunneled through the sand is what was amazing. It moved at a pretty good pace (about like a nassarius snail).
