Coralline algae has any disadvantage?

As most of us do I also like coralline algae and I am happy with their growth. But I heard a few times from fellows in this hobby that coralline algae diminishes LR permeability and bioactivity. Is that true? What do you think guys?

plus it looks like a chewed up wad of bubble gum when it totally covers a rock!! Why would I want a chewed up wad of bubblegum in my tank? Why?

Besides all that above, the worst part is when it is growing at its fastest rate, it can easily grow up and over some corals. I've lost three frags of Zoanthids to Coralline Algae already.

It is a surprise for me to learn that many people hate it. In that case, why are there some products in the market which encourage coralline algae growth? OK, then coraline algae is a bad thing. Perhaps the reality should be expressed more clearly to aquarists..

Same reason green star polyps and xenia are so popular yet despised by so many people. Everyone has their own opinions about what they like, dislike, and are willing to tolerate

I was always told that it was a sign of a healthy tank. But too much of any good thing can be just too much of a good thing.

Thankfully, my other half dosen't like it so much, so I get it scraped off the glass just to land on the rock all for free. Lucky me, huh!
