Coralife Super Skimmers

My Bakpak 2 with upgraded MJ1200 isnt performing up to par, and it is super loud. a local reefer is selling his Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer 125 for $75 used for a couple of month. It will be used as a HOB, and i want to know if it is a good skimmer and if it is quiet.

Thanks,

Jeff

Its a good skimmer regardless of what people say. Have a little patience with it, and you will have it up and running and get your money's worth. I have the 125 on a 75 gallon and it skims the crap out of the tank...literally. Bring your needle wheel pump close to the surface of the water....this mod is really all you need to get it going well.

I have 2-220(w/Fishingline mod) hangin on my sump and they work great.

I say buy it, $75 is a decent price. Just remember, they aren't Deltecs, but they get the job done.

for those that use it as a HOB, is it loud? My BakPak is super loud and thats a main reason why i want to replace it.

I don't consider mine very loud. Its in a sump now, but I had it as HOB for a year or so.

What about comparing it to a sea clown? would the CSS be better or about the same (the sea clown works, but takes lots of tampering)

Way better than the SeaClone. Once you get it broken in and dialed in it works great. I run mine semi-wet w/ zero problems. I just did the gutter guard mod on mine yesterday and it makes the air valve mod obsolete. It pulls more air and can handle it to boot. Nice even skimming reliable as well. I'm working on setting up ozone through it now. I've never had a flood. My advise is to get the skimmer and adjust it slowly. There are a few easy mods floating around that will make this piece of equipment a little more productive and reliable, but it is still a good skimmer out of the box. jmo
