Anyone else ever notice a dieoff of cheato after adding phosban reactor? I just added reactor on wed. and noticed yesterday some of the cheato is dying.

The reactor is reducing the Po4 that the algae feeds off of. Of course it's dying back, your taking it's food...

Some of the basic food for algae is nitrates, ammonia and phosphates... The things we don't want a reef tank to have

This is why the planted tank world tries to keep these levels elevated.

I would cut the chaeto back, keeping only a small, healthy ball.

I understand it is taking taking its food. Just wasn't sure if that was normal. I have seen many setups on here using both. I will trim some cheato and see how it does.

They probably have more established reefs with more PO4 to export due to bio-load/waste.
