I would not recommend running an ASM Mini on that size tank. The mini uses a completely different style of impeller and pump, that is no where near as efficient as what the pinwheel impellers are. You would be better off going with a larger Coralife hang-on, Remora, or even a Turboflotor. IF you really want to spend the money check out the Tunze DOC 9005.

Since he is looking at an ASM mini (lousy skimmer), I assume he has a sump. A ER RS80 promo would fit the bill.

Agree as well. i have heard that the pumps that come stock with the mini are loud and inefficient. you will not see many of them floating around rc. the coralife superskimmer is probably a descent bang for the buck.

Agreed, the ASM's are good skimmers, it's just that the ASM Mini is a dog.

from my understanding, the downfall of the ASM Mini-G is the pump, but what if you switch it out for a Sedra 2500? And for your info, the MiniG DOES come with a needlewheel pump, it's just not very good from what I hear. I've got an ASM Mini-G, but haven't plumbed it yet, I hope to so this weekend. But I do plan on changing out the pump for a Sedra 2500. Has anyone done this and after you did it, did it change your opinion of the ASM mini-G?

I run a G3 its a pretty decent skimmer. The Mini does not get to much applause on RC. I think the ER suggestion is a good one. An octopus aint a bad idea either.

I have tried the mini with stock pump, sedra 2500 NW, and GenX 1500 NW. With the sedra, I actually noticed fewer bubbles and worse performance. With the GenX 1500 I had way too many bubbles and had to lower the riser tube all the way. I think it would be good with the 1500 if the neck of the skimmer was an inch or two taller. IMHO, stay away from the mini. If you really want to try it, I will sell you the skimmer with all the pumps mentioned for a steal.

In regards to the ER RS-80 promo, I bought one and it came with a GenX pump. I have had a horrible time with it, and think that I got a POS pump. Havent had time to return it.

Good luck!

I just got the rs-80 promo and it came with the sedra pump. I wonder if ER would replace it for you.

wow..... i wish someone at PA would have told me that instead of recommending it to me

anyways, i would say that i am pretty happy with mine. yes, the pump is loud but i guess i have just become used to it. that is my only complaint.

i too have thought about changing the pump. jeremy, is there on you can recommend????
