Can I mount my ballasts inside canopy?

I have a 14" wooden canopy. What would be the consequences of mounting a 250w icecap and t5 ballast inside the canopy? Would it put out too much heat or do some people do this?

I mounted mine on the back top rail of the canopy. No problems.

INSIDE=BAD IDEA....TO MUCH HEAT
I MOUNTED MINE ON TOP OF A 15 INCH CANOPY AND THEY CANT BE SEEN ON MY 180 GAL TANK....YOULL BE BUYING NEW BALLASTS MORE OFTEN IF YOU PUT THEM INSIDE...IN MY OPINION

Like what others have said, a ballast near the water will be another heat issue. Also splashing of water can be a fire hazard. Better to keep it as far from open water as possible.
