That is going to be largely, matter of opinion. What works well in one reef aquarium may not in another, and we're all limited to personal experience with this kinda question.

My vote would go for cardinalfish. I prefer the bangaii's but I'm pretty sure there all very reef safe and peaceful.

To Reef Central

That's a loaded question. THere aren't 5 "top" fish. How about 5 groups? Tangs, clowns, gobies, basslets, anthias. A group of 5 bartlett anthias would be a nice addition. You could probably get away with a regal tang or some tang with different color. A friend for you clown? Good luck!

Fairy wrasses are GREAT too.!

I asked this same question 6 months ago and have ended up with this community:
1 yellow tang
1 regal tang
1 coral beauty( I tried to add a flame angel later but found out the hard way that you can't mix two or more dwarf angels)

2 percs(clowns)
3 green chromies
1 orange anthias

all getting along great

recently added a copperbanded butterfly(you have to be careful with these--easily stressed)completely ignored by the rest of the population and is doing great.

Do not add any damsels!
