What lighting would you put on a 36"L 18"W 25"H tank. I want to use the Lb mini pendants with the 12K reeflux bulb coralvue ballast. The question One 250 watt or 2 150 watt SE bulbs. There will be 4 inches of sand. I wants clams and sps on the bottom

If you can handle 1 - 250w bulb and raise it to 16" you will get plenty of light for 2foot of your sand the other 6 inches on either side would be perfect for LPS, deep water acros, and some soft coral. One bulb and one ballast. Other thing to consider here is if you do upgrade tanks to something bigger, would you use 2-175w bulbs on that tank or could you use the 250w bulb along with a couple others? Like I said earlier there are plenty of options. What do you want to grow in your tank?

I did the math and I think I will go with a single 250 watt light. My reason, two reflectors are 16x16. so the bulbs will be 16" apart. So the lights will be 10" from the side. I will only have an eight inch overlap. I will take the lower light 6" from the sides of the tank.

For those reefers that use reeflux bulbs, which bulb would you choose if you have 2 vho actinics for supplements?
Would you use the 10k over the 12k due to not needing the blue? Thanks, Michael

I use 10,000K bulbs with VHO actinics. I've seen tanks with 12,000K + actinics and it was too blue for my taste.

I am wondering if anyone has built or modified a canopy when using the LB's? I just picked up my 210 with canopy and I don't see how I'm going to be able to modify this hood for the LB's( to make it tall enough if that makes sense?)
Thought I'd see what others have come up with that didn't want them hanging by themselves. |

WOW! Chuck needs to see this, as he has 3 lights over his 600g.
![]() Caveat: In the front. He has some smaller fixtures over the back as well. Can't wait to see these over your tank and hear how you like them. |

If I didn't, I would probably cut out squares in the top if possible, big enough for the reflectors to slide in and out. I have seen those "yo-yo" type suspension kits, mounted to the ceiling and light, that I'm going to use so I can lift up the lights and remove the hood when necessary.

8 LB's.....wowzers is right! Just make sure you keep your photo period down for a few weeks if you already have corals in the tank. Can't wait to see some pics with that power house turned on.

Anyone else think that?

If there was a top on the canopy, it could double as a stove top. That sure looks like there is going to be a lot of light, 250 or 400....

I've got lots of time to think just how I'm going to make a floating canopy for a 4'x4' tank with 4 large LB reflectors that are stored away right now. The canopy will be cantelevered off one wall since the tank will viewable from 4 sides. |

I've had two lumenbrights 250's with 12k reeflux over my 90 for a week now. They replace the 175's I used to have on for seven hours daily. I have only kept these on for a little less than 3 hours daily, and they are still bleaching the heck out of all my acro. I thought I was being careful with such limited time. I hope everything comes back.

I used Marino420td's build thread to do it. Here is a link to the page where he starts the canopy.... canopy build BTW, I haven't got the lights yet. Waiting on $$$. I assume 4" will be sticking out of my top and I will use the plain reflectors, not the black pendants. My gallery shows the progress so far. Here is my picture... ![]()

Bulbs are 14" off the water as I was told my Mike from ReefSpecialty. He has been helping me through the process. It's not like these reflectors are replacing PC's...I had 175 halides with parabolics before; these are just that much bright.
I just got eggcrate and screening today. I have two pieces of screen over the eggcrate. I will gradually increase the time and then take one piece off at a time...stagger it. Hopefully it works. I just spent a lot of money to turn my SPS white ![]() |
