That's a nice coraline growth. can't see any on your rocks though?
Nice new look, why not post a pre and post picture so that we can decide better if pete is right or wrong?

My wife is a hairdresser and I was just asking her about getting hair dyed and she said if you're not sure you want to do it to go with a semi permanent type hair color. It will show you what it would look like if you were to go with a permanent type that needs to grow out. Semi will just fade away in about 4 to 6 weeks she said. So go for it. Love the new look by the way.

yeah, she suggested semi-permanent as well.

Waking up this morning was a shocker. I'm used to waking up all tangled up in my own hair looking like my night was much better than it actually was. Today I woke up looking like I'd had better days. Shower time! Maybe a nice style will perk up my day, because it's starting off like a repeat of last year, and that is not fun.

There is some corraline on a couple rocks, but it hasn't really taken off (aka exploded) like it has on the glass.

My girlfriend chopped all her hair off two summers ago for locks of love! I'll admit I was "a little" surprised when she walked in (It had previously been halfway down her back) but i actually thought it looked really good short. The only problem she mentioned is that unless she got it styled or did something with it every morning it didn't look as good which I think you already mentioned. For the record, I vote no on any hair coloring unless you really want it.

By the way, holy crap at all of that coraline! Did you have to use a razor to get it all off?

I used an "algae scraper" from Petsmart. It's a straight edged piece of metal on a long, curved ergonomic plastic handle. The little metal bit comes out in a mini-blade holder to use on tight spaces.

AND, the real reason I got it... it FLOATS! So I don't drop it behind the rocks and end up SOL.

Wow, I just spent two days reading thru this thread. Actually its the first build thread I came across that I made it thru so thats saying something.

I have had a 55 FOWLR for the past 7 + years. Just had my flame angel die suddenly of unknown causes i have had since i set it up. I miss that little guy. So since all i have left is a little neon goby and a yellow tang, i figured it was as good a time as any to tear it down as i want to replace the carpeting in my livingroom and really want to upgrade to a 90 or larger in the spring. So for the time being, they are doing well in a smaller aquarium until i can get going on the larger one. (Tang police, hush. Its better than those little breeder tanks they use at some LFS's. AND it's temporary.

So way to go on your 90! Im happy that your nem pulled thru and looks happy. I never tried one of those. I love that there are females who love this hobby. My hats off to you! My gf tolerates it. lol.

I'm waiting on the color. I forgot all about anything like that, actually... I'm knee-deep in finals and a major natural disaster occurred this weekend. We're still under a state of emergency. Been staying with my mother for three days now.

We suffered a major ice storm Thursday night into Friday. Lost power Thursday night and haven't gotten it 100% returned yet. We're scheduled to have our power back on with no more interruptions Wednesday. I came back to get the reef survivors on Saturday morning. The Anthias and Chromis were already dead. The apartment was 50F and the water was 55F. On Sunday, the apartment was 39F.

I lost almost all of my livestock.

The total losses I have now are:

all of my SPS:
Orange birdsnest w/purple polyps and green tips
ORA Green birdsnest,
Superman,
two large Orange Montis,
Scribbs Acro,
green/purple Milli,
Largeish Purple Digi
Smaller purple Digi
The frags of the Digi)
My large Scoly looks like it is on its way out
the Favia looks rough

Fish-wise:
pair of Dispar Anthias
Chromis
Full-size Banded Sleeper Goby.
Various snails and hermits
Cleaner Shrimp
Cleaner Shrimp "Fry"

My survivors are:
All of my Zoas?
BamBam's,
Bright Red ones,
Dragon Eye,
Green-skirted,
peach)
Frogspawn
Hammer
Branching Frogspawn
Duncans
Maybe the leather? It looks pretty ****ed off right now

Pair of ORA Ocellaris
Potter's Angelfish

The LPS are looking sick, especially the Favia, Scoly and Duncans. I'm not holding my breath on them surviving.

I'm bringing what I have left to a fellow reefer with a generator to hold on to until I can get my tank in working order.

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear this has happened.

I hope you can pull through with what is left... At least you've got your Potter's... I know the pain of ice storms - yet never with a reef tank.

Best of luck to you.

Very sorry to hear about your power situation, as well as all those losses. It dropped 50 degrees from yesterday to today, and everyone in the area is complaining about how cold it is. I mean, yesterday we could have worn shorts and flip-flops, it was way warm here, and then BAM! arctic blast. I wonder if it came from your neck of the woods.

I have been following this thread for some time now, even though I havent posted on it. I didnt have much to add, but kept an eye on it with much interest. I just want to say now that i am heartbroken for you. I have lost tanks with much less than you just lost, and was simply crushed by it... My heart goes out to you and all the fellow reefers that got caught up in the cold snap this week... I droped out of the hobby after my last crash, and it took almost 3 years or so to muster up the will to start over again... From what i have seen of your setup, I sure hope you dont do somthing similar.
For what its worth, I send my prayers to all the folks affected by the ice storm, and all the animals in thier care...

Jeff

What is with all the disasters!?!? Did the Clubhouse do something to offend the reef gods?

We had very little heat in our apartment over the weekend but we didn't lose power so the heaters kept up with the cold. The apartment never got below 15C/59F.

Thanks for all of the support, everyone.

Unfortuntely, I came home from work today to find my Potter's dead. He was my favorite fish, always defying the odds. He was a model citizen, fat piggy and excellent eater. Of all of the things in my tank I was worried about losing, this fish was it. Next in line is my Crocea.

I brought my last survivors to a fellow reefer's house today after work. I hope what is left lives and that what doesn't, doesn't hurt anything in his tank.

Yeah Schmeejay, sucks big time. The Potter's was an instant favorite with everyone. My mother watched him zip around the tub for the past two days and was shocked that he passed, too.

I'm sorry that you lost Merlin. Looks like my birthday money will be spent restoring the reef. Won't be for a week or two, though. Until finals are over and I can recook the LR.

This absolutely sucks arse. Just before Happy Chrimbo too.

What is it with power cuts in the US?
Do they not have backups or what?

I cannot remember the last time I had an outage here in Ireland.
Probably back in the 80's IIRC. Mind you it;'s rare we have cold snaps like that, but we do get storms fairly frequently.

I would be mightily pee'd off to be honest. Maybe ask Santy for a UPS this Chrimbo, rather than Gucci shoes or whatever.

Poxy global warming. Sorry Schwe & everyone else who lost stuff.

No product in my hair in this pic:
Sorry for the delayed response......Your hair is GREAT!

PS, I have no idea how to use those things, my hair is naturally like that, HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAA .

Very sorry to hear about your tank.
It really sucks when months if not years of effort are lost in only one day and sometimes less....
Hope whatever you have left alive in the tank will recover.
