I have just set up my 55 gallon aquarium, it has a hob filter, there is no sub, or refuge right now. I would like to know what fish I could put in this. I want colorfull and a peaceful fish. I am currently thinking that I will need to start a refuge shortly for my mandarin that I want but I plan on getting him in a year.
So what do you think of 2 Ocellaris clowns 1 Clown Goby Green 1 Firefish 1 Spotted Cardinal Fish 1 Yelow Prawn Goby 1 Green Mandarin (1 year from now) What other fish could I add to these or what would you substitute, my tank has not cycled yet so I have time to research all that you suggest. |

Hey guys, I'm starting up two tanks, one 20L FOWLR, and one 29g reef.
The 20L has a simple flourescent light, 100 watt hydor heater, and a Aquaclear 30 HOB power filter. I could add a small HOB skimmer, or an additional filter if need be. For stocking I was thinking: Purple Firefish Orange-lined Cardinal Osc. Clown Some kind of Goby For the 29 Reef, I have a RemoraC Nano skimmer, 200 watt heater, and haven't decided on a light fixture yet. I REALLY have my heart set on an ORA mandarin, and yes I've heard all the horror stories. I think I'm going to ask my LFS to order one, then feed it in front of me, and take it if it eats. Besides that: Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse Either a Orchid or Indigo Dottyback (can I have both or are they conspecific aggressive?) Bangai Cardinal Some sort of goby or other fish What do you guys think? |

For the 29 gallon tank, keeping any mandarin and specifically an ORA mandarin will be very difficult. You will have to spot feed it multiple times per day. I would recommend against it. Dottybacks are relatively aggressive so having two won't work. If you want to have a flasher wrasse, the orchid dottyback may work, the indigo will NOT work. If you are planning sand, a goby/prawn combination is fun.

Stocking list
I am setting up a 120 gallon tank with a pm30 sump with refugium, protein skimmer, t5 six bulb light. I plan to have a mix of LPS and SPS coral. This is what I was thinking as far as fish stocking:
Pair ocellaris clowns Mystery wrasse 3 Bartlett anthias (1 male and 2 female) Magnificent foxface Hippo tang Yellow tang Yellow eye kole tang Sailfin tang Thoughts? |

IMO, the hippo and sailfin with both get too big for that tank.

Why would the indigo not work, and the orchid possibly work? Lets say I replace the mandarin with a clown, would that work? |

Limbaughi Chromis
I was considering putting 4-6 Limbaughi Chromis in my tank which will eventually be a full reef. Local fish sellers are all for it. I spoke with someone who should know what he is talking about, and sounds like he does, about it and he pointed out that the Limbaughi are a little deeper water fish and would have a problem with the light on full reef. I have facility to introduce brighter light slowly and big tank has enough caves for them to hide from the Halides if neccessary. Any thoughts? Tank is 120 show with 4 T 5's and two metal Halides (currently not used as no coral's present) within foot of water surface with more than enough water flow and sump capacity. If light bulb change on the T 5's would make a difference short term I would change them .

It is a very hardy fish found in a variety of aquariums. It is commonly kept long term, in small schools, and used by beginners to learn the hobby. It may also be included in larger schools in show tanks. It is a peaceful fish, and adds a dramatic effect to the tank. The Limbaughi Chromis will live from 8-15 years in an aquarium in water of good quality. The diet should be varied and consist of meaty items, herbivore flakes, and frozen preparations. Using vitamin-enriched foods may help to preserve the bright color. Soak in Selcon, Vitality, or equivalent. So, all in all I think you would like this fish. If you have caves and overhangs, I would not be overly concerned with lighting but if you do have the ability to increase your lighting progressively, it cannot hurt.

220 gallons with 30 gallon fuge and 60 gallon sump. Tank is 72 wide 24 deep and 30 tall. Octopus skimmer with two sicce psk2500's. 300 lbs live rock 4" sand bed. So far I have a kole tang and a pair of black clowns. 8 bartlet anthias have been ordered and should be here next week. Then I plan these in the following order.... Blonde Nasso, powder brown, desjardini sailfin.... Also was thinking a pair of flasher wrasses and possibly a goby of some sort. I also have 5 nassarius, 10 black turbos, 5 cerith, and 5 nerith snails. Also have 10 small hermit crabs. Tank has been setup for 3 months and all parameters read great for the water. At what rate should I add more clean up crew and what kind? Also plan on some shrimp, How many and can I mix types? Any problems with what I have planned? Besides triggers (which I am not wanting) what else is reef safe that might be a nice addition? Maybe a magnificent fox face?

Sry. I went by to check out the eel and he was swimming around and brushed up against an anemone then took off. My question is the eel ok in a tank with anemones and is that to many fish for a 75?

He didn't take my advise he hasn't tested water. When I went by I tested ph 8 and sg1.024 has pc lights 2 96w I also did 5 gal water change all I could spare right then. Dint know for sure on the anemones one looks like a bleached bubble tip with purple on tips I'm not sure what they are. Oh and temp was 78. I pretty sure he's headed for disaster but hope he's wises up soon. Thanks
