My plan is to let them compete (and intertwine). I purposely aquascaped my shelves tiered, so there will be shading eventually, but minimal.
..MAY THE STRONGEST SURVIVE!!...hey, maybe this could be turned into a reality show....as long as it runs for 3 years.

Tank looks great. Such an awesome build!! I love the fish room. Makes life so much easier when you have everything right there behind the tank. Great job planning everything out.

I'm anxious to see if those 8 radions are enough light for those Sps. There is a guy near me that just built a 60x36x26 tank, and he is running 8 radions.

I would think 10 would be minimum for a tank your size. (12 would probably be best) Ecotechs recommendations always seem much less then what's actually needed. I was running 5 radions on my 96x30x21, and before I decided to switch the T5s, I was considering adding 2 more radions. Your tank is much wider and deeper then my tank. I hope 8 works out for you, I just thought I would pass on my experience.

-I was (am) thinking about adding 2 more down each side for a total of 4 more..but my 3/4" glass side Eurobrace is 8" wide, so the additional lights on the sides would almost be completely over glass.
-I did mount my lights very high for better spread (12" over the water).
-I am at 55% power at noon when my par reading at the top is 300 (200 at the bottom)
-In another month or so I plan on kicking up the peak power to achieve 450 at the top.

During the cycling phase of my tank build, I purchased around 40 frags which were placed in an egg crate corral for me at the lfs. The milli's are deadly. The branching will rtn if they get slimmed on or touched by bird nest corals. Monti's and encrusting are the most susceptible. I go in daily to insure that no corals touch and that species are grouped together. Milli's don't seem to hurt milli's. And branching acros don't seem to hurt other branching. Same with monti's. I'll be grouping when I place in the Dt. Also, common species like similar light par, depth.

I just switched to 2-54x8 t5s about 5 weeks ago, haven't had time to borrow my friends par meter. I'll check it soon and post back.

I just bumped my "high noon" Radion setting to 70%.
I'll take a reading at noon tomorrow

At 70%, My 8 Radions produce 350 PAR at the top shelf,250 midway down and 200 on the sand.
I am going to hold it there for a month and then increase to 75, then 80 a month later. My target is 425 at the top shelf.

Looking good. Have you noticed any shadows due to "only" having 8 fixtures?

Wow! It already looks pretty full of corals! Are you done adding species? And will you let these grow into huge colonies or will you plan to prune and keep them small. If I have a vote, it's to let them get huge. :0) Regardless it'll look great.

Awesome setup! Just watched the equipment room video. How much room, feet wise, do you have in between your sump and the QT tanks?

25"..I though it would be tight but it turned out to be no problem at all. A fully extended ladder fits in between.
