Here's why the XX inches of fish per gallon rule breaks down in a salt water tank. Some fish have specific habitat requirements that make them unsuitable for certain types of tanks. Look at clown fish. A tomato clown can get up to 5 or 6 inches long, and pretty thick. They are a big fish. But, because they don't need a lot of swimming room, you can keep them in 40 or 55 gallon, if you want. But, look at a mandarin dragonette. Smaller fish. But, because of it's very specific dietary requirements, it needs a large, well established tank to find food.

Tangs are another example. Tangs in nature swarm over reefs, constantly grazing algae. We can "don't put them in small tanks".

Every fish is different. some don't get along with others. There are NO reef safe critters. Think about where your livestock comes from. It comes from the reef. Why was it on the reef in the first place? Because it was eating something there! A fish is only safe to other tank inhabitants if the other inhabitants aren't a food source.

baldomero - you need to chill out and relax. Lay off the caps lock and quit being so aggressive. That goes for everyone, please.

It's not about "how many". Its about "which ones" do you want to keep?

It has nothing to do with your questions, but your answers to others. In your six years experience, are you now just starting to ask questions?

I wouldn't put a tang in a 75, but that's me. Others may differ. A 6 line wrasse will nip at snails and crabs and other invertebrates. If you go with a bangai cardinalfish, make SURE it's captive bred. That particular type of fish is quite rare in nature and for some reason it's being pulled into the hobby by the net load. Not good.

It got kinda ugly didn't it??? Sometimes that happens, I thought it was alot of fun. Heck I've heard people threaten to kill each other before..

I fish mainly for sturgeon up here I've caught them approaching 1,000# before...
