Alright,

I think I am definitely qualified to give advice since 1) I am a married to a fellow reefkeeper and home plumber and 2) my hubby has poorly plumbed something and managed to dump water on my hard wood floor, soooooo here is my advice . . .

How about first apologizing and then offering to go shopping for the shiny new floor of her choice - something really nice like the kind they do on the home improvement shoes - tile, cork, or bamboo perhaps?

Or if that doesn't work out - you could always take her shoe shopping.

Hate to be on the enemy's side in this gender war, but I am with Christy on this one. Apologize, flowers, and have a google-maps print out of several tile/wood flooring stores printed out. I gotta tell you, its cheaper than you think, especially for one room like a kitchen. I am currently in the middle of a kitchen remod. Just bought marble tiles at $4 a square foot (thats high end, you can get regular nice tile for $1.50), lay it yourself, or get a contractor to do it for a couple of hundred. Next time you screw up the kitchen you can just replace an individual tile with the extras you buy!

I kicked the can over on our White carpet!

I called her at work right away and told her about the damn kid spilling his grape juice on the floor! Then I ran out and bought him some grape juice and me some carpet cleaners...

I just kept scrubbing it over and over soaking with different cleaners inbetween... It took about 2 days and a few bottles of cleaner but I was able to get it about 99% clean. You have to know where the spot was and look real hard to see anything.

Buy a puppy/kitten and then blame it. Maybe she'll even help you clean the spot.

If it is linoleum, you should have at least a little scrap piece from when it was installed if it was put in after you got the house. If not, see if you can get some that matches. Get a good sharp utility knife and cut it along the lines of the pattern. On your replacement piece, cut it along the opposite side of the grout line in the same pattern. Get you a small can of floor glue, trowel it out, lay the replacement piece in. Use a rolling pin to flatten it into place, wipe off the excess glue and put some seam sealer on it. If done properly, it will look as good as new and you won't be able to tell the difference.

He's probably trying to get that rolling pin from around his neck.
