Started adding some dry base rock to start the right side reef structure. Also started filling it up with water!
So far, I have added 20 gallons of freshly mixed saltwater, adding 20 gallons of aged water from our 1200 gallon reef tonight. All the liverock is old from the old tank, and has been in an established system as well. It will bbe added soon. With this, I doubt I will se much of a cycle. As for fish for this tank, i have a few left over from the old tank, as well as some that have been in quarintine for a couple months. From my old 125, Captive bred sunrise dottyback, about 1 year old, 3" long Red Sea Sailfin Tang. about 3" long, had for over 1 yr Spotted manderian. 2" had for about 8months. Eats prepared foods! In quarintine I have, Several flasher wrasse, all juvis, but I think they are, 1 McCoskers, 1 Filimented, 1 Carpenters, and 1 Blue. Also have a yellow flanked fairy wrasse, that has been in Q for several months as well. Just got in a Half Black Mimic Tang, which is about 2". Corals are going to be sps, with a few choice shrooms, and zoas. Some clams will be in the tank as well, including my huge Squamosa, which is close to 12". I got my halides mounted and tested the bulbs out. I am going with the XM 10k this time, still being fired by blueline e ballasts. I let them run for an hour or so, and was pleases with the color, of course, I won't know fo sure till they are burned in ,and the tank has some stuff in it! Should have the right side reef built up in the next couple days and will post pics soon!

Alright guys and gals, rock work is done!
Right side of reef, Look at the hitchhickers on the rock, already open! Left side reef, I thought I was going to have to drill this and run a rod through it, but it stacked well on its own! Side veiw of the piller, Full shot, Pay no attention to the pvc on the bottom of the tank. Deep sand bed will be added soon. So what do you think?

I really like the look of the pillar! It is very nice to see a new idea in aquascaping once in a while.

Lookin good! I agree with ambaratur, I really like the pillar.
I have been meaning to ask you, how big are the bulkheads you used for the CL and overflow drains? Also, I noticed you are using a smaller overflow than you had on a previous tank. Can I ask why? How are you liking the flow from the manifold? It looks great!

All bulkheads are 1". I went with a smaller overflow because of the obtrusivness of the larger ones. With at tank only 18" wide, they really cut in to the visual of the tank. Sure, it is not as effective at skimming the surface layer as a longer one, but I'm okay with that.
I am real happy with the flow of the manifold, and have the return running now as well. There is a good amount of flow, and I am sure my sand will have some peaks in it. I feel I could have gone with a bigger pump than the dart and not had any problems, esp. if I were to go bb or with a shallow sand bed, but with the dsb, I think this is enough. I am not saying there is not enough flow in the thak, because there is, a bunch of flow! Much more than I have had in other tanks. Thanks for the kind words! I will start adding my sand bed this weekend.

Well, got my sand in the display, i rinsed and rinsed, but like always the tank is cloudy. I put some filter floss in the sump so hopefully I ill be able to see into the tank again in the nest couple days.
The lfs had Red Sea Eightline flasher wrasses on the list today, so I have a couple coming, one for this tank, and the other for the 1200.

Thanks! This will be the last one I set up for awhile (except maybe a small tank) So, I hope it does well, and yeah, I can't wait to see it in about 4 years!

Thanks will do! Everything is doing well, including the hitchicker corals, so I am tempted to start bringins some stuff home.
Of course it has cleared up a bit since the pics above. I am going to take home some algae for the sump today, and some little critters (bristle worms, stomatella snails, etc) to seed the tank and fuge. Then, maybe next week I'll bring home some zoas, and shrooms ( only have a couple that are going in). Then montis, acros and clams. Last will be the fish. Oh, I guess I should probably take some snails home today too!

Here are a couple pics showing the shape of the piller, it has some cool overhangs and such.

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for this thread. I'm building my first reef tank (90G RR) and am planning out a 1.5" CL run on an Iwaki 100RLT with 9 outlets. Can you tell me if you have much/any vibration noise in the CL manifold, as it looks like you have it sitting on the top edge of the tank frame? Did you pad the points where the CL touches the tank frame? I was thinking of drilling holes in the inside lip of my tank frame and hanging the CL underneath that lip via zip ties, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary work if your method works fine. |

It site right on the tank, no pads or anything. I have not had any problems, no noise, vibration, etc.
You may notie however, that there is a section of flexible hose between the pump and the manifold, this may absorb some vibration.

Looking nice, Jeremy! Did you have any trouble fitting the sump under the tank with that wide center on the front of the stand?

Yes, I actually had to knock the brace out of the back side, and put the sump in, then put the brace back in place.
