It works fine, he upgraded to brushless unit. He said it's as quiet as it is going to be, meaning that it makes some "normal" noise I guess??

Yeah, it would likely be a humming noise. If the price is right go for it.

How is everyone getting the AP regulator's box only? I don't see that as an option for sale on the site.

In their site, search for the term "Electronic Boxes (for multiple aquariums)". That should get you to it.

How do I figure out approximately how much flow per minute I would get from a 20rpm pump with the 17 tubing?

There is a chart on the Masterflex website for each size tubing.

How's about this tube? Seems like a good price, plus it's prime .

I can never find anything on their site.
But I did see a chart for their tubing that says the L/S 17 tubing can run 2.8 to 1700 mL/min with 1-600rpm.
But i have no idea what 20rpm will net me.

I see that chart as -
1rpm=2.8ml.
600rpm x 2.8ml=1680ml. (pretty close to their 1700ml.)

So 2.8mlx20rpm=56ml, would be my guess.

No problem bro. You've given plenty of solid advice and info, not to mention your build thread, we will give you a pass. ; )

ok, yet another question, hopefully not quite as stupid.

One drive i got came with long screws to hold two drives.
Where would i get shorter screws to convert it to hold a single drive?
Is this just a Home Depot item? Or can I order easily and inexpensively online?

I just picked up one of these drive with a 7518-10 easy load head. I'm running the pump on the lowest playable speed (about 2 on the dial) and mine is essentially inaudible relative to the main return pump that sits next to it. So far so good!

Yup, that's actually what came on this one!
I guess I just need shorter ones. They are threaded about a quarter inch on each end.
So a home depot item?

Quick question please. I am using the LS17 equivalent tubing suggested from US Plastics with a 7518-10 head. Even after only a few days, the tubing is slightly flattened. Is this normal, or am I using the wrong tubing for the roller head? Thanks in advance.

Pretty much, I think they are 8/32 thread but don't quote me, been a while since i picked up hardware on mine. (I could check tomorrow but my pump is on a shelf in the basement kind of hard to get to tonight)

You could just take one of the studs with you to the store (I prefer ACE or a smaller local store for this kind of thing, or Fastenal) they'll find the right thread size for you, just measure the length you need. (or give masterflex a phone call they could hook you up with the exact size bolts you need on the way to the store, really helpful folks! (well, 8-5 anyhow )

Here's my setup. I got the pump from eBay and the regulator from Alan. Right now my calcium needs are very low and so i'm running 30 ml/min. The pump came with a small pice of LS15 tubing who lets it go to 170 ml/min. I ordered some LS 17 from ebay. I used RO 3/8th tubing throughout to prevent clogs. Iv'e never ran a second chamber on a reactor before and I see a huge difference. My tank PH didn't change at all. Big thanks to Mark for starting this thread. I can't imagine running a calcium reactor differently now.

I prefer ace for the threaded rod (called all-thread) if you are going to be installing a single pump head. If you are stacking multiples the official stuff is better because it is a harder alloy stainless and will flex less.

If the original tubing set for your pump head calls for ls15 then it requires "performance" tubing. LS17 tubing is "precision" and will not function in your pump head. Please confirm the part number on the pump head.

Ah, so that will give you 29-2900 ml/min at 1-600 rpm

If your drive is 1-100 rpm then your golden at current rate of 30ml/min

if it's a 6-600 rpm then slowest you can go is going to be 174ml/min.....

That tubing is ls36 and should work with your pump head.

Keep an eye on the tubing as I am unsure of the lifespan.

I think with the High Perf Head the number is 34 to 3400 (ml/min) at 1-600 RPM .... just so it doesn't drive ya nuts when trying to dial in .
