JPC,
I think around an inch should be fine, maybe a little less, but better make it bigger now than sorry later

Here's a quick video guys. Ignore my son background sounds! lol
The water noise it's from my return that is above the water right now.
Notice how solid and stable the head of foam is. And it isn't ready yet(break in)!

Thanks Guys. I was planning on an inside height of 36" so that gives me a lot of room for removing the cup!

Well got home and unpacked the 180 for a first impression. The quality of the skimmer is extremely nice. It arrived in perfect condition (no crazed cup like a few have reported with the 100) However, I could not take it for a spin because I'm missing the tee to the wedge pipe assembly I will have to contact PA to see about getting the missing piece. Thankfully I'm a while away from needing it. Even with the missing piece I'm still happy so far and look forward to using this on my 90.

My questions get burried quickly around here!

How much room do you need above the skimmer to remove the collection cup?

Thanks, John
I know you have the 250 but on my 100 I'd say I need at least an inch.

PA should definitely take care of you, I'm in the same shoes (except crazed collection though). I won't have my tank up and running for ~3 weeks. But after waiting and saving 7 months for all of this, 3 weeks will go by fast

Newmoon, your video was great. Are you going to run your skimmer without the top?

how come nobody is using the built in Skimmate drain Vertex built in the lid one of the few companies smart enough to add one in with out risking drilling or modding ourselves very smart. IMO looks like the weekend before I can get mine up.

i didn't use drain hose cause i wanted to make sure that skimmer wasn't gonna go nuts and flood underneath my stand but it skimms great with no crazy overflows. I just wait till cup is full than drain into a 2liter and clean cup off once a week.

Not a chance.
That was just to show the foam.

I reallt can't believe how many cups are hazed!! Is this just the 100 having this issue? I guess in a way its kinda a cool cause you get a second cup for free, just in case you drop one!!

So far it appears that its only the 100 being affected by the crazed cups. My 180 was perfect (minus the missing wedge tee).

Guys, just an update as far as the small issues go.....

Hazed Collection Cups - This has been the IN100 only so far, and I think we've had a total of four or five. It seems to be pretty isolated.

Impeller Issues - This has affected all pumps, although really not a lot in ratio to how many that have been sold. The first batch of skimmers that were sent to the US did not have the impellers rinsed well enough after some sanding on the magnet itself. This caused the left over dust to find it's way inside of the impeller where the shaft slips through. This in turn has hardened on some people, causing the impeller to spin off balance, lock up, or wear the shaft down. For good measure, I would recommend rinsing the impeller off inside and out, with the shaft out of it before use just to be on the safe side. All of the new impellers that are being shipped as replacements, or the second batch of skimmers have already been rinsed over well at the factory.

Parts Missing - Again, this has been very minimal, and I believe they've worked out the bugs on the second batch that come to the US. If you do receive anything missing please contact the point of purchase for replacement.

Don't specifically know about the 250, but if its like the 100 and 180 between 6-8" of water, with 7" being the reported sweet spot so far.

Most skimmer s fall into the 6 to 8 inch range. Just been what I have seen over the years. A few like it shorter and some like the msx say 8 to 10. However If I could redo my baffles I would set them about 7 inches.
