My biggest problem with adding tangs is other tangs, so if you can add them at the same time there is usually no issue.
I had a powder blue for almost a year that just up and died on me one morning, and I had a tang free 240. I ordered a clown, orange shoulder and purple tang that never even fought for a second. When I move again and start my next big tank, I think I'll wait about 6 months while the tank matures and then add any tangs I want at that time. It was a very stress free way to introduce the tangs. |

In my display I have...
Tomini Black Purple Yellow Hippo powder blue/goldrim hybrid ...many I've grown from babies I've got a few other tangs in different systems, including a jewel tang that keeps my 6 foot frag tank clean... these things can EAT! I'm uncomfortable with having any Naso genus or larger Acanthurus genus (clown, sohal etc.) until I upgrade to an 8' x 4' 600 gallon... ![]() ![]() With flash under actinics only... ![]() ![]() Tomini and yellow in 65 display a couple of years ago... ![]() Purple and hippo in 54 corner display years ago and very tiny... ![]()

Hey Naga... I was at the table with you CMAS guys at MACNA last year... I know George pretty well... I had a minor meltdown in January while I was away on business and lost some sps, but all fish are fine and the tank is rebounding... I'm in Leesburg... not too far from you, and you're welcome to come by this summer after things grow in a bit again and we return from vacation. I'll be in touch with you, and thanks!

copps, yes I remember the MACNA table. You were sitting off to my right one person over I think. Sounds good when your ready I would love to head on over.
I just got word that I am on the CMAS tank tour July 30th. Would love to have you over if you can make it. Shookbrad, extremely unlikely you would be able to do any of those tangs. With a Yellow and a Purple you have two of the more aggressive/dominant tangs out there. Together they aren't going to let much in by way of tangs.

yeah don't add any more. These people with all the tangs have very large tanks, thats why they are able to do it.

:"The clown tang, which is very impressive but also extremely territorial, is the dominant inhabitant, and his dominance makes it difficult for us to add additional fish." This is in a 340 gallon tank... four times your size and coincidentally also with just a yellow and a purple... People mistakenly group all tangs together, when in reality there is great differences between and with each genus... Most of the "tang police" base their opinions on hings they've read, when those who base their opinions on first-hand experience are truly looking out for the tangs best interests, whether that person have 20 years firsthand experience or just 6 months... it's firsthand nonetheless... the misinformation in this hobby is unfortunately abundant... shookbrad beautiful system! I strongly recommend a group of a few of the hardier smaller anthias... like Bartlett's or lyretails... they are beautiful and prove to be good "dither" fish, allowing usually more timid species to show their face more often... Not sure what you mean on a fish the "size of a clown tang" in your 90...

John,
Thanks for the reply and warning. I think after everyone's suggestions I will not get a clown tang. When I said same size I was refering to a fish about the size of the adult clown tang about 8". I would like 1 large fish in the system if their is one that can go in a 90. |
