The algae in your tank is consuming them as fast as they are being produced so you get a zero test for them. I would wait three weeks before adding any inverts--you still could get an ammonia spike or a nitrate spike. Either one will kill inverts. As the rock cures fully the nitrates will be reduced and the algae will die off. It is also important not to use tap water as it contains phosphates which also fuel algae growth. To Reef Central

Hello all, I'm new to RC. My current SW tank is a 55g with 20g sump. It is currently a mixed reef. Its been setup around 6 months. It has a red fairy wrasse, royal gramma, a few pajama cardinalfish, a blue spotted watchmen goby, and a mixed cuc. I do have a thread asking for help with MH ballast in the lighting forum. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge here.
travie Latests FTS under PC and T5 lighting since my MH is on the IR right now: |

Good morning Paul. I started up the old thread I used last time to smoke out the WK.
Perhaps it might work again http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...t=water+keeper

Hello all,
I've been reading here for over a year and in that time have put together a pretty successful tank. I figure its time I introduce myself and share my experience. There is still a lot to learn and it seems like something new comes up everyday. I am going to start a thread in the beginner section showing my build I don't have a lot of pictures but enough to get the idea anyway. Since the tank is a year young it should move along pretty quick. |

To Reef Central Be careful stirring up an established deep sand bed can be catastrophic to a reef tank. Quote:

Hello RC,
Have been poking around the site for over a month and decided to introduce myself and make my first post. I currently have 3 tanks. Tank #1 is a QT tank with nothing special that I use to introduce all of my new fish. Tank #2 is a 55 gal softie reef that I have had setup for over 2 years. It is my pride and joy and has led me to my latest purchase of Tank #3 which is a 75 gal drilled tank with 20 gal sump. I purchased the 75 on Halloween as a complete setup from a fellow reefer (on my 55 made the mistake of buying everything new and paying an arm and a leg). I am very happy with it and I am already in the process of upgrading some of the components (Lights, skimmer, UV sterilizer, etc). I do have a question for the experts. The sump I purchased with the tank is kind of a odd design in that it is a three chambered sump in which the previous owner had setup as a wet/dry system with bio balls in chamber 1, miracle mud, cheato, and AquaC Urchin in chamber 2 and Quiet One return in chamer 3. Reading on RC I have heard that Bio balls are a "nitrate factory" and that miracle mud is also a no no since I am wanting to do LPS and some SPS. My question is can I run the skimmer and keep the cheato both in chamber #2. The first chamber is not large enough to house the skimmer but I do like having the cheato as well just wondering what would be the best configuration.... Anyway that's my story....Thanks to RC as I have learned more on this site in one month than I did on my own in nearly 3 years! |

New
Hi all! I am new to reefcentral and still not sure how it all works but I am glad LiveAquaria @ Facebook sent me here!
I have a 55g reef and it just recently crashed!! UGH! Starting all over again! Hopefully this time I'll have somewhere to turn if anything goes wrong! My local LFS doesn't even know what happened to make my tank crash! So frustating! Anyways..I am real excited to meet new aquarists and share/get info! |
