This thread has evolved greatly in just 6 months. Just from our feedback alone, manufacturers have gone from non-dimmable, standard blue/white black boxes, to offering dimmable, heatsink added, customized led ratios to our liking. I noticed the Evergrow guys now include DIY ratios, based on our customized orders. Great ideas. Everyone is having good experiences too.

Next up is Reef Controller compatibility, and moonlight module mods

I remembered one member from this thread asking about the hanging suggestions for this led lighting fixture, but cannot remebered which page #. I found this aquarium suspension hanging kit on Ebay and I thought I would post it up for those who interested.

What kind of brackets are those? I have a temporary hillbilly stand my lights are hanging on while a canopy is being made for my stand. I have been trying to figure out how to mount the lights without having a super tall canopy.

Just have to say I got the dimable 50/50 LEDs and so far I love them. I recieved them in 7 days and that was over the holiday weekend. Can't beat that. It was going to take my LFS a minimum of a month to get the exact same light. Also really great communication from the seller.

How does the dusk/dawn work?

Same here, I joined just because of this thread and Travis/Bhazard giving info on this company's lights. I am still deciding what I will be getting (just started a 20L) but I think I will be going with the 3uv config that dnastynice has.

Haha, honestly, it looks awesome. Should be much easier to control heat over having MH as well. My separate fans barely run now. I like what you did with the bracket too.

Has anyone cracked open the black boxes to see what they look like inside yet?

I'm not sure that I've seen the answer to this question. I would be curious to know the answer as well if somebody wouldn't mind explaining.

Ive been thinking about seeing if they can do an A4 with 4B+3RB+4W+1V on each group of lights. That would give a total of 16B+12RB+16W+4V for the set up. Any thoughts on this configuration? If you count the violet as a blue, this gives a 2:1 blue to white ratio.

Thanks

Well he suggested 3 A8 for my 300g tank so boom that's 1200.00

Not so cheap all of a sudden. It's a FOWLR so I really think I can make it look good for way cheaper somehow. Keeping my eyes open. Any suggestions would be helpful.

If I was to buy the A8 are they totally customizable? Like can I replace the LEDs individually with next gen ones as they arrive on the market? That might make it worth the coin right there. like a computer case that you can upgrade the cpu once in awhile.

If it's like the A4, and imagine it is, no.

What is replaceable is the 'pucks' which contain 12 LEDs each.

I love the sound of this ratio I might even steal it if I ever switch to the a4

What are the dimension of your tank? I must totally disagree you do not need 3 a8s that's ridiculous... Esp in a fowlr tank!

I just got the d120 the cheapest of them all for my 65 gallon which is 36 long 18 wide and 24 tall and it lights it up fully..... I bet 3 of these with 120 lenses would be pleanty for your tank at 550 at most which is half of what they suggested

I love sam and hendy and evergrow but one this I do know and learned from dealing with them. They have little to no knowledge on the needs of lighting for a reef tank.... They just make great lights but there knowlede of what's need to light our tank and support our corals isn't there which is ok I'm just saying lol

EDIT: I thought you said a 180 so a 300 gall would be diff but I still think 3 a8s is a bit much but I doubt 3 d120 would do it like I said before give me your dimensions and that will help

Travis what would you suggest for 9 x 3 x 3 feet. Actually depth is like 31 inches not 3 feet . I have pully systems above so I can raise and lower. Do I need 120 optics? 0r go with 90.
