Their site says they will start shipping to customers in Spring of 2017 - so 6+ months.

I was told at MACNA now that the price is $900 plus $35/mo. He said you get 2 discs in the box. Also the device there was supposed to be working but I didn't actually see it logging any data. When I asked to see the data they said their ipad wasnt working.

I was at MACNA last year and this year as well. Their display hadn't changed much if any. There was no real demo or anything. I left their booth with a sense of disappointment as they really seemed ill prepared again. At least they were there though so it's apparent they still have a pulse and are still working on the development of the product. I was told that they expect to be shipping in the spring of 2017.. We will see how that goes since they had originally aimed to release it at the end of 2015. I'm not holding my breath.

IF you are looking to monitor ALK constantly there is a new instrument coming.
It was previewed @ MACNA by M.Levinson & I believe it is on his website.

Yep. That's a product Jim Welsh has been working on. I've been following this product for a while. This has a lot of promise. It's in prototype stage now but from what I understand, it's very accurate and very consistent. It connects to a standard pH probe port of any controller. The value displayed via the controller would be the DKH since. You can simply rename the probe to alkalinity and get real-time Alk of your water that will log based on the preset sampling intervals which are user defineable. You can set it for 10 times a day or set it to take samples 1 time a day etc. It's not going to be cheap though. You can get updates from: http://www.alkalinitymonitor.com/

Here is Marks video on it.

considering the main purpose of the desire for this unit is calc/alk monitoring someone else coming into the picture after years of failures on Mindstreams part is relevant and IMHO welcome.

It's very relative to the topic of realtime alk monitoring and potential control. Something that is now a possibility and a direct reading not calculated from other parameters.

This is huge and one of if not the most important parameters to test for especially for tanks dominated by stoney corals. I'd want to know about this in any thread.

exactly and those with a calcium reactor are likely mainly checking the alk typically anyway...

So the only change over the past 3 years is the price has gone up.

well they were pretty confident that Pre order is Feb/March 2017. Official order right after.

I will give them till then. If nothing happens again, Im moving on. I still like mindstream the most. Takes least space and easiest to deal with.

big investment at first yes, but $35 a month is nothing. test kits cost similar for SPS owners.

I hope it does come out and I hope it works as advertised. Even if I don't get it they will have helped to advance the hobby and testing/monitoring capabilities. Which will only help push competition. Which we've see advancements in things like the iDip, what JimWelsh has produced, reef kinetics, etc.

I bought an idip at macna. From the demo's it looked pretty damn accurate and testing takes 20 seconds. Plus I trust the durability of the unit as they are a company who makes products for commercial testing.

Ya fingers crossed. JWelsh's product look promising.. but realistically speaking, it will take another few years. reef kinetics looks very cool. I would make a nice little display shelf on the wall for it. Those Ikea wall cubes work. I may try it along with the Mindstream since I won't trust either one at first.

the idip is nice, but you still have to do the testing. It is an all in one tho.

I haven't seen this brought up so I assume it is not possible. It would be nice if you could control the timing of the testing. Say for me, I don't need constant testing, maybe just once or twice a day. That might make the testing strips last a lot longer unless they are time dependent.

I think since the tests are always submerged you would have issues with that. They are read on a schedule but I dont believe the lifespan could be extended.

I figured that was the case. That makes it just too expensive for my needs. I had really hoped the Thrive water testing station would work out but it looks like they just stole money from the LFS's that signed up for it. It would be nice to just take a water sample to the lfs and get accurate readings for things you don't need to test for on a regular basis or to test the accuracy of your current test kit.

I believe Triton is trying to do that with Triton Envoy.

There is a whole lot of different efforts going on to do in talk monitoring of parameters. Non are cheap but will be a game changer once they get to the consumer level. An will be very useful for those wanting to control processes in their tank. We all have to just set back and see what actually comes to market.
