Well, after i modded the ps160 in sump, not hot. I'm sure it was just as good as the octo 150......well dang near anyhow....5.5" reaction chamber vs 6" octo. But like i said, it'll be fine for a 55g or less, a 75g pushing it to its limit.

Whats the cost of a octo 150? I am quit amazed at the skimmate. Is the skimmer really fragile? On a scale of 1-10, 1 being fragile 10 being hard, where would you rate the plastic for this skimmer? I just want to get a idea of how hard or fragile this skimmer is.

Octo is around what 150-180? I know the 200 is 209 pretty much everywhere and a hell of a skimmer to mod for a 200g or less and well built. Anyhow, for a scale of a 1-10 on how well built it is i'd say its a 4. Its very thin acrylic and you can't drill into the body without really worrying about cracking it. But you can mod it easy, with practically no cost and make it much much better.

well I got my PS75 dialed in very good, and was pulling out some medium to dark green skimmate, then I did a water top off on the tank. I came back into the room to find that the collection cup overflowed with water!! All over my floor and everything around it!! W-T-F? Why would that happen?? Why would a water top off over flow it??

I am curious, if I were to add water conditioning like amquel plus to my tank would the collection cup for the ps75 overflow? When I do this to my cpr bak pak it gathers up water in the collection cup and overflows. It also does this when I add vitamins like selcon.

Guys, this is a great thread -- I read every single post over the past week and ended up buying a ps75, though I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to use it because I need to cut up the hood of my AP24 in order to fit it on.

When I bought the PS75 I also bought a $9 ex250 PH for mixing saltwater and found a strange impeller on it. Has anyone seen this before? It looks like a NW impeller but is different from the one that came with the PS75. Do you think one would be better than the other as a NW?

That's the new NW impeller they send with the new PS75s! The old PS75s were a 240 pump, now they send a 250 pump with the NW impeller---use that one on your skimmer!! It's the exact same pump/impeller that came with my PS75. I also added a layer of enkamat on the impeller and secured it with fishing line to hopefully improve the NW bubble action.

If your going to leave it stock teh second impeller is better. If your going to meshmod it the first impeller is better as there's more room for mesh.

Yeah i think so, My ps 160 stops really skimming even when i put my hand in the water! It doesn't overflow it just lowers the large bubbles in the collection cup tube to the water level. . . If that makes any sense.

But does it fill you collection cup full of water? My cpr bak pak does that when I add additives it fills the cup with water and it overflows.

For the first few weeks any time i did water changes, fed or added my hand to my tank my ps160 overflowed......thats why i suggested to not use it as a hot skimmer, but after a few weeks had passed it stopped doing that. It would just lose head like all the other skimmers i've ever owned have.

That's what mine did with merely adding top off water

Mine only overflows now when the water level in my sump is raised.

Hey, approximately where do you all have your outflow gate valve (water level) positioned at?? Just curious......I am still dialing mine in. It is currently pointing at about 2 o clock (if looking at it like a clock from the front, looking down on it).

the dial has nothing to do with bubble/riser tube. Its all relative. I have a stronger pump and an elbow on the inside... if mine is set completely open the water level will be well below the riser tube. If i put the stock pump on, the water level will be way lower.

Its all relative to the mods, pump, HOB, water level in sump....ect

You asked the question NOT because you really care about what position the dial is in. You asked it because you wanted to know how far up the bubbles are in the riser tube.

Better/straight forward question would be. "How far does everyone have there bubbles up in the riser tube (adding what model skimmer your asking about)"

well this is getting slightly frustrating. I've had the riser tube filled halfway up with tiny, fizzy bubbles for 1 week. I have not skimmed one ounce of skimmate. I would think I should see something by now.

Thoughts?

Mia, once it stops fizzing like soda, you'll start to see some skimmate. Give it time.....some skimmers take around 2 weeks. Also if you have added anything new equipment wise, it'll do this as well.

yea, there is a fairly heavy bioload. The only new addition equipment wise is this skimmer. I never even rinsed it when i put it in, so that may be my problem.

One thing I had thought about regarding the removal of the inner tube and the elbow... I would think that pointing the elbow down with the inner tube out would just cause much of your foam to be sucked down and out of the skimmer... am I wrong? Do you feel the mods are really producing better skimmate?
