I have been calling my reflectors lumen arcs but see they are lumen brights from this thread...

We recently did a "reef crawl" around the Buffalo, NY area and had a PAR meter that was taken around so was able to get PAR readings on my tank. This is a 220 so 6' long with three lumen bright reflectors each with a 400w MH bulb. The center bulb is a 20K Hamilton, the outside bulbs are 12k Reflex bulbs.

This image was 5 shots taken vertically and merged together, the slight dark area on the left side is just a poor editing job when merging them.

These PAR readings were surprisingly high.

Glctrix, what ballasts are you using? i am looking to do the exact same thing on my 6' 2' 2' tank. i was looking at 3 175w MH bulbs with the same bulbs. I want to use the LB to get the light to the bottom of the tank. Im sure you have posted yuour tank size but how deep is it again?

Thanks. Acropora Nut (Mike) talked me into the Lumenarc III's but my local supplier had gotten these for a good deal and mentioned his supplier did not get the Arc's anymore.

Hopefully my tank will grow in to look even close to what some of these tanks look like.

Yeah Kurt,

Mike had been using LumenArcs for the past two years up until a couple months ago. After the TOTM came out, Mike decided to try out the LumenBrights. Mike is one of the first reefkeepers to test these LB's out. Both of us have been working on tweeking the placement and use of them optimally.

No one is saying the LumenArcs are a bad reflector. They had their place in the market. Hey, Mike and I had both been using them prior to the launch of the LumenBrights. I still have my Diamond Light designed LumenMax 3 reflector over my cube.

Here are a couple of the previously posted shots of Mike's tank. Mike and I both feel these LumenBright reflectors are the wave of the future in lighting design. We are both very impressed with everyone's results. Thank you everyone for posting your findings. I just bought a meter and will be posting soem PAR values for everyone shortly.

I just unloaded my two mini LumenArcs in about ten minutes today on the used goods forum. I am happy you got the LB's instead of the LAIII's Kurt so you don't have to unload them too. Great looking tank and thank you for sharing your results. Holy cow, 1200 at the surface and 200 underneath a ledge(now that is what I am talking about. That light has to be coming from some other angle. Not something I think you would find with a LAIII.

Jim

Mikes tank is even more lit up after installing 3 large lumenbrights. The frogspawn is lit up like a Christmas tree. Under the ledges are also getting way more light than before. Jim you really need to hed on over to Mikes and get some updated shots. Mike really does have the best /most natural lighted tank I have seen yet.

Cheers JR
Thanks mate for the info.
The mini's seem the way to go given my tanks are 30in wide.
Will email Tony at reef Exotics with my request.
Also will save about $300 in postage.

Jim,
I did not mean to infer the Arc's were bad, and more than likely would be happy with them if I had them. It was dumb luck getting the LB's a few months ago instead.

The 200 under the ledge where the sun coral hides from the light is directly under the left light but I think the 200 reading is coming in from the center reflector setup. There is a deeper cave on the right side that if I remember correctly was getting readings of 50. Light still gets in there just no real direct shine.

The 12k bulbs on the outside are 3 mos old, the 20k bulb in the center is only 2 or 3 weeks old.

I have actually burned a few sps frags, and need to start new frags at the bottom of the tank working them up over time.

drudude - I use the ARO ballasts from hellolights. Not sure wether they are the best, but they work great for me My tank is 55x24x24....As you can see in my pic, the anemones to the right arent getting that much light, the rose is actually moving to the left some to get more light, I think that thing is going to be SUPER happy once the 3rd reflector gets put in....should be thursday. Hey Jim and JR, I measured my lights, the bottom of the LB is just under 8" from water, so that put the bulb around 11" I'd raise them a but more but as stated earlier, that just cant happen with my hood...oh well. Perhaps its better seeing how the lights are only 175's. Man I cant wait to get that 3rd one installed....my tank is going to zing! Julio, dont be confused about T5's, they are super powerful growing machines! If done right and have the proper setup, T5's will out perform most lighting setups! And husbandry has a lot to do with it too. T5's are nice, not to mention they last a lot longer than MH's and have very little bulb degeneration over that period. To each is own tho with lighting, I'm a MH guy all day

burton you could hang it from the ceiling, you'll just have to use some creative thinking. There is a center hole in the reflector and the mogul has a hole as well it comes with 2 eye hooks, something could deinately be done!

Agreed that it is possible to hang these with a little innovation. Their are plans for pendantsto come out as well as double ended versions.

you could with a dremel and a lil bit of time make your own HQI version....that is if your DIY'er enough...you could make a pretty slammin reflector from it too if done right.

I know I could rig up something but I think it would look ghetto compared to some nice sleek glossy pendants with reflectors inside. I don't want company to see some jerry rigged tank in my office.

alls you would need really is some high test fishing wire or metal wire to hang it. You'd olny need two strands per light, you'd hardly see anything. Just a thought.

I don't think the DE style is out yet but I think they are in the works. I will call CoralVue tomorrow and see for you DE guy. I would like to see What kind of light output a DE setup would produce.

It is being shown as -

Large LumenBright - 20 x 20 x 9 - mine actually measures 8.5 tall
----these are definitely 20x20

mini LumenBright - 16 x 16 x 7 - not sure what the actual measurement is - maybe it is 6.5 - can someone measure.
----these are definitely 16x16

What are you saying, IRIS?

Do you have 19.5" in the canopy lengthwise to fill? What size tank?
