Tank on the 2nd floor of house in S. Cal
How many pounds can I put on the 2nd floor of house in S. Cal? Footprint is 36x36?

i got a 24x24 tank/stand on the second floor. Stable.

i have a 34g all the way up on the third floor of my house so i'd say around 60g maybe even 80g would be ok.

I have a 36x18x18 and a 30x12x18 along with a 20gal sump all against a load bearing wall on a 1920's wood floor. No probs.

I have a 7'x5' waterbed upstairs (~350gals), along with a 29g, 10g, 5.5g, and a 8.5g. ALL in the same room. been this way for over 7 years

i had a 115g with a 30g sump on the 3rd floor

To be as safe as possible, make sure you place the tank up against a load-bearing wall and make sure the tank stand is spread over as many floor joists as possible. The stand should run perpendicular to the floor joists, not parallel.
I have a 75 gallon w/ 30 gallon sump and 15 gallon top off on the third floor of my appt. I built the stand extra long in order to spread the load over more floor joists... The tank is up against a load-bearing wall, perpendicular to the floor joists.

well you can pay a structural engineer to take a look and see if it's safe. for the peace of mind i guess it's worth it.
