HAHA!!! I think he might not be going into the aquarium. Don't know yet. I know sea cucumbers eat detritus, but man, I think they are ugly

It's a 60 gal acrylic uniquarium. Everything is built in behind the display. I bought two of them from a guy in Memphis, TN and just finished removing scratches from one of them. Never again will I mess with acrylic. They are very easy to move though.

Eventually this thread will have to either get split or we MIGHT get our own special interest sub-forum..

To those that look at this forum....

If you look at the pic with the live rock in the cooler you can notice a black sponge. I have taken this rock out of the water a few times for a few hours at a time in an attempt to kill the sponge. I have no idea how to tell if it is dead. Is there anything I can do to make sure it's dead without hurting anything else?

Just a quick question. I'm in the process of setting up a 54 gal. Corner aquarium. What in the normal suggestion on how close to the walls do you position it? Meaning in inches.....

I left 3-4 from the walls, I wanted to be able to make sure I can squeeze my back there for what ever reason. By the way, wlecome aboard, we'll look forward to your build here!!

I'm hoping to at least start setting up things this weekend. I am building a FOWLR. I have everything but the tank. It's coming in on Thursday. I will be taking pictures as I build it.

The 3-4 inch distance from the wall will help with heat dissapation as well. Good luck and have fun!

Anthonyi: You may even wish to consider a few extra inches of space on one side (the blind side preferably) just in case you decide to do more than FOWLR down the road. Who knows what you might wish to add, and there's always too little space under a corner than you think, and need.

I didn't figure I'd need a chiller, but lo and behold...

Good luck to you.

Esquare, where did you get your stand? What company made it? Is it all real wool?

Just found this corner thread. Great find! I have a 6 week old 54 corner. I currently have a koralia 2 and mj900 for flow and small penquin powerheads behind rock to reduce dead spots. Would replacing the mj900 with a koralia 4 be to much or would a 2 or 3 be better? I dont have any corals yet but would like to do a mixed reef. Any thoughts( a tunze, vortex not in budget)?

Welcome to the thread, dutchbros!

Well, that's a toughy... without seeing your setup it's really hard to determine, exactly. I have a 92g corner and I currently have 2 K4's on the front glass aiming back toward the rock. I also have my MH and modded MJ1200 setup on a timer to come on at the same time everyday. The modded MJ is toward the back aiming forward. I plan on adding two more K3's to my tank (toward the back) and getting rid of the modded MJ. I think they are "clunky" looking, and mine makes a lot of noise (although I've heard them a lot quieter on other people's tanks). Mine MJ is an older mod... not the cool looking swivel ones that they have out now.

Flow is arguably one of the hardest things to get right on our tanks. The way the tank is setup really screws with the the direction you want your flow to go in. I think the best way to get all your rocks is to have the powerheads on the front glass, aiming back toward the rock... it interrupts the main viewing area a bit, but it's been the most efficient for me so far.

But, you know what's funny? I seem to "always" move them, in one-way-shape-or-form into another position on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. LOL!

Thank you for your input, flipsideleo. I definitely want to get at least a K2 to replace the mj. I have heard that the newer ecomod is a better mod but I figured for the money just get the K instead. I know what you mean about trying to get the flow right and I am trying to keep them off the front glass if I can. Maybe I will try to mount something near the back pointing forward also.
