No, Aquarium Systems, makers of IO and RC are filing for reorganization (chapter 11).
NOT PREMIUM AQUATICS

Well the scare is over. The skimmer is back to normal. Next time I will read the instructions (although the Vertex user guide could use some help).

Someone misspoke in a thread, where they meant to type Aquarium Systems, yet they put Premium Aquatics down. |

For those interested in a bigger skimmer, it looks like Vertex now has a larger model. The IN-280. 10" body 6" neck. 24" tall. If the pump is matched right to the neck, this should be a great skimmer for larger tanks. Lot of skimmer for $400. Couldn't find any info on the pump.

New Collection Cup! Thanks PA!
Well my new collection cup came in today for my IN100. I had been running the skimmer with the messed up one since my tank has been up (almost 4 weeks). It worked fine but had a bunch of miniature looking dents in the acrylic. Here's a few pictures of what the old one looks like and a video of the new one. Keep in mind that I kept my wedge pipe in the same spot so the bubbles need to catch up again. Now I can see bubbles all the way up through the collection cup easily . I'm pretty sure I've found my sweet spot. The skimmer is creating super small and organized bubbles, I love this thing. Thanks again PA .
Sorry if the video quality is mediocre. In all my videos I try to get a good shot of the bubbles but the detail isn't really there. I also try to emphasize that I have my water exit pipe halway out of the water. Enjoy old picture of first collection cup video of new one. bubbles catching back up.. |

Got my replacement pump from Vertex, skimmer seems to be pulling some good junk. Right now the skimmer is in about 11" of water so I am going to try and raise it 3-4".

I had pump issues with gen 1 in-100 (stops and would not start up again). I replaced the pump/impeller twice, and still same problems. So I sent the skimmer back. I am still looking for a good skimmer for the price. How are you guys doing with the Gen 2?

Recomendations:
What Vertex skimmer would you put into a 120g SPS dominated tank, 40g sump, with heavy bioload. Thanks |

the in 180 or 250 ehutchby, And I ll psot some pics of the gen 2 in 100 later tonight if you all wish to see. Since I started this thread with the gen 1 in 100 why not add to the mix with the gen 2 model. What? You all thought I left you hanging? lol Ill review that changes and I have at least one more if not 2 more skimmers coming to review. in the next month or two.

Here are a couple pics after putting together the new gen 2 model. I will say it looks as if the lid is a little thicker, cant remember . The mount that is included for the pump seems to be built pretty well and has the rubber feet already installed. I really like how they changed how the pump goes into the bubble plate. I havent plugged it in yet but will do so within the hour. I will be curious to see if the simple mod for the air silencer actually works. But the lower bubble plate and the upgrades look promising. A more refined IN 100.

np if I only had all the money I have spent. You know, sinse doing all these reviews, I have up my phone plan as I am on the phone with people almost everyday and it almost like what skimmer can I do next. I will say that the air silencer is very simple but effective. Firing this skimmer up with the refinements that have been done just backs up what I have been saying all along. Best skimmer under $200 Hands down.

Agreed that Vertex is a great skimmer for the money. This company is gonna keep the other skimmer companies on their toes. Their going to have to come out with better products at affordable prices, like Vertex is. Vertex and the Octopus line really are putting pressure on the high end skimmers. I think with the economy the way it is, there is going to be some high end skimmer companies that don't make it.
I wish someone would test out the IN-280. I love the body size matched with the neck size. The neck size should be able to handle much more air than the stock pump is being advertised to pull. A good mesh mod candidate.

How does that silencer work? Is the cap on top sealed? Where does it pull air from? I'm not knocking it, I like it! Does it silence the air draw? I would like to have one one mine.
