thanks but I picked the 30 per cent number based on what Randy---our chemistry icon on here---has suggested as the optimal level to effectively bring down nitrates.

whenever you have a chemistry questions his chemistry articles are a great place to start
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=102605

of course for the basics Water Keepers articles are the best

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1031074

and the capns log book as some good "how to" in it:

HELLO!

I am from Florence, Alabama and I am a full time student at the University of North Alabama. I am studying computer science. I have had freshwater tanks all my life, but started my first reef tank a little over a year ago. It is a 55 gallon rectangular glass tank with a 20 gallon long sump. I have a Coralife Super Skimmer, a UV sterilizer which I very rarely use, a Current Nova Extreme x2 T-5 HO light fixture, an Aquaclear 70 filter, one Koralia 4 powerhead and one Koralia 3 powerhead, and 2 Marineland Stealth 100w heaters (one in the sump and one in the display). There are many additions that I would like to make to this system but being a college student, I simply can't afford it. I am looking forward to being a member of this community and have already learned a LOT about reefkeeping.

Hey my name is Garrett and I'm from Oklahoma city. I need all the help I can get from anyone. I know the gist of what it takes to have a salt water tank but a little advice wouldn't hurt. I have wanted one my entire life and now I do.

Hi Garrett

To Reef Central

Just ask and help will be there, althought you will learn to take my advice with a grain of salt.

I already posted in this thread before, but I have a silly question. What forum do you post your tank build thread?

Thanks!

Most go into the Reef Discussions forum or the Large Tank forum for really big tanks. There are also build blogs on that RC feature but you need to become a premium member to start a blog.

Aloha

Hey guys, I used to have a 55gal saltwater about 20 years ago when I lived in hawaii. I decided to get back into the hobby and need a little advise. Anyone know some good reliable aquarium manufacturers? ...or any I should stay away from. Any advise is greatly appreciated!
