Had one disaster when i just got my 300 DT up and running and didn't know enough about the hobby. I didn't have a QT at the time. I was putting fish in like crazy and having cycling problems but the real kicker was dosing treatment once one had ich and in a tank that big with tons of plants in the fuge and having the treatments killed my plants and just ruined the water quality... That was a long lasting nightmare on my stupidy and lack of knowledge.
I started quaranteening fish and i actually have better luck not QT'ing fish cause they get so stressed in my little 20 gallon QT and don't do well. So far i've been very lucky as i've had ich a few times in my 380 DT with about 20 fish but its went away on its own both times with no treatments. Seems like if fish are good and healthy they do not catch the diseases as easy in such a big tank where they are comfortable. I guess i just need a bigger QT cause its asking for trouble. Sometimes its just hard to QT a fish like an 8" naso for example...

IMO there are consequences both heartbreaking and expensive to chosing not to quarantine-----and I believe someone new to the reef deserves to see them posted----not just the one side cavalier approach that was being given to them on the other theread Further what gives you the right to judge a thread or a posters reply as petty--I don't see moderator after your avitar. I believe you owe me a small apology for using the term "petty" which is nothing more then a personal judgment--not a discussion of facts or ideas. If you don't have a case of ich or disease to report then I would please appreciate it if your took your attitude towards qt'ing to one of the many many threads on here related to qt-ing or not qt'ing.

For every disaster you will find no disaster. I personally have never QT a fish. I have never lost a fish. I think this is hit or miss. If the fish has been housed and is healty, you need to minimize stress before introducing into DT. Sometime the QT alone is excess stress. I have read to many posts about people having QT or not, and 3-6 months later Crypto/Ich sets in. So I think again a personal choice for maybe false sence of security.
capn_hylinur Is it possible there is no validity thus the responses?

I was trying to keep the opinions as to qt'ing or not qt'lng out of this particular thread Todd, sorry to have offended you with the word attitude----I respect your opinions and expertise and if you stayed out of my posts it would be a loss for everyone. I think we have both known each other on here long enough to know that we are both dedicated to helping others so I hope you will accept my humble apology for the poor choice of a word.

I'm dealing with flatworms now. Not sure exactly where they came from, but didn't QT coral purchases, so I guess that is where. Live and learn. Best to learn from OTHERS mistakes.
