Hi, I’m new to this site. I’ve been keeping fish sense I was a little kid my mom started in fresh water and about 4 years ago I talked my parents into getting me a 130 gallon peninsula sw tank at first I was a big fish only person but has my mom has gotten into the reef with her new 30 gallon cube I got her for mother’s day I decided to check out some of the sites online and I have found this to be the best one so I have looking around for awhile and decided to say hi. We are big fish people at my house with more than 6000 gallons in koi ponds and more than 5 tanks; you could say we have a problem.

Whats up everyone!
My name Dave from Sarasota,fl..I have been doing freshwater for about the last 5-6 years and I'm getting alittle bored with the freshy thing, as I have done pretty much every kind of freshwater thing you can do even up to 5-6 tanks at one time. I have always wanted to do a salty and figured I needed more of a challenge and thought this would be the time to do it. I planning my first one to be a FOWLR 90 gal drilled.I have been reading pretty much eveything that I could on here and AA for about the last month(morning, noon, and night) my wife hates it but oh well.
She in the long run will see how much more beautiful salt is compaired to fresh. Right now I'm doing a piece by piece puchase as not to kill my budget and trying to unload some of my freshwater stuff to put back into the saltwater. Thanks for having a killer site with a cramp load of info for every form of the salty aspect of keeping something you love to do.

Sure you can custom build any size sump you want. Since you only need space for a protein skimmer and return pump(you can even run it externall) you could make the refuge area up to 16 by 14.

Start a build thread right in this forum--New to reefing.

As for the ro/di question--I'm not sure --maybe waterkeeper can answer that one

I doubt you will ever be board with salt water--when you tire of a fowlr there is always a full reef tank.

Whats AA---you mean there are other sites out there?

Hello all my name is paul and I have been in the hobby about two years I strated with a 29 for about 8 months then upgraded to my current 90 gallon and I have recently purchased a 34 gallon Solana system. I live in gainesville FL. Thanks for the site reefcentral staff.

Thanks for the warm one,The parts have been sold pretty much to a friend of mine that has 200 gal size freshwater tanks and needs them for back up parts in case his breaks, its better to have back ups then to have no extra parts at all...The shipping and taxes to you would cost more then the item its self lol, found out the hard way from some motorcycle parts that I shipped up there..Btw don't shoot me, AA= Aquarium Advice you probably know that.....Thanks again.................

Hi everyone! My name is Joe and I've been perusing the site and soaking up the info for a while but decided it's time to be a little more active on the forums. I spent my college years studying marine biology and SCUBA diving in the Bahamas and the Keys and now find myself landlocked and starved for the ocean. Solution? Spend lots of money on a marine aquarium! I currently have a 12gal nano which is still a work in progress but I'm working on getting together a bigger tank. I sold off my cichlids and originally decided to used my 45g w/ a 20 gal sump but, hey, bigger is better so I think I'm gonna track down a 75g instead. Besides, I convinced my girlfriend it just means I can have more pretty fishies than with the smaller tank. Haha. IMO reef aquaria are truly one of the most amazing concepts I can think of. I spent so much time studying the ocean (I even wrote my senior thesis on the biology, conservation and reclamation of coral reefs) that the idea of having a self-contained miniature ocean ecosystem in my house still blows me away! I think the patience involved in the processes might end up being the most difficult aspects though, haha. I plan to eventually post a thread once I start to get things underway. Thanks for all the helpful advice and info everyone has been posting!

BTW, Waterkeeper, how many Vlamingi tangs you think I should put in my 12g nano? I only have 2 but the LFS said 4 or 5 should be ok...I mean they'll only grow as big as the tank right?

I am new to Reef Central! I look forward to all I can learn from all of you out there! I have been obsessed with reef keeping ever since I met my husband 5 years ago. He has been doing it all his life and I have enjoyed every second of it, even when it began to take over our house

!!

We are currently getting into breeding a pair of picasso clowns. We have always wanted to do it and now we have the chance, so here we go!

We currently have a 65g reef tank, 28g nano tank, and our newest addition is a 24g tank for our beautiful picassos!

Look forward to getting to know more of you!
