Turbo Snails Dead
Hey guys,
So on sunday I went to my local fish store and bought a $25 package that allowed me to get 3 mexican turbo snails, 2 lg nasarrius, 1 sally lightfoot crab, and 3 hermits. I acclimated them all for 45 minutes and then put them in. The hermits, sally, and nasarius did fine but the 3 mexican turbo snails have died after only 2 days!! As soon as i put them in they just kinda sat there until today and now they are dead. Any idea what killed them? Or do you think i just received some unhealthy snails?

Did you drip acclimate them for at least 1 1/2-2 hrs?
It takes snails a long time to get used to new water conditions.

Mexican turbo snails don't last long in our tanks because of the temp difference. However 2 days leads me to believe they weren't acclimated properly. Can you explain your acclimation process?

I acclimated them for 45 minutes maybe thats why. The bag they came in had water in it already from the store and i brought them home and placed the bag in the water with the top taped to the side so the opening was well opened. Everyminute I put a small amount of my tanks water in for 45 minutes and then dropped them in. One out of the three is actually moving and eating now but the other 2 have died.

are you positive they are dead? In the past when I put new snails in, it has been a few days before they actually moved.
Also, where in your tank did you put them? Sandbed, glass, rock? I've found they take longer to move if put on the sandbed, so I actually prefer to put them on the glass or rock...just my .02

haha yeah well they were originally put on the walls and one on a rock covered in plenty of algae to eat but two of them fell down into the coral bed and started sperming each other. The other one that was on the rock survived and is still on the rock. I checked them today and picked up the shell and one fell out of the shell and was all gross smelling. The other is still in his shell but is started to smell also so I think those two are dead. The other started moving today though! I was thinking of replacing them with Trocus snails though thanks for the reminder!
