Water Softner & RO/DI bad together?
I have heard mixed things on this. My father in law installs Softners and RO machines and he told me that it's bad on my RO if I use hard water.
Then I've heard it's bad for your fish tank to use soft water even if you RO/DI it? Just wondering if anybody knows for sure. I just picked up that huge RO/DI unit from Phishy's and it's working really well. I'm very happy! I'm getting 440~ ppm in and 2ppm out. It started at 0, but after 120 gallons it's up to 2ppm. Is this normal? I really have no idea what is good? Thanks! Jason |

The Water Softener will replace the hardness (mineral, calcium and magnesium) in the water with sodium. This prevents mineral-scale buildup on the RO membrane extending its useful life
Single-Bed Softeners, when used to supply water to an RO Unit, must provide means to shut off the RO unit when the softener is regenerating.
