home made 2 part?

Does anyone use the home made 2 part Ca/Alk supplement? Currious as to its effectiveness and ease of use/make.

i have been using it for over a year now, and love it. the hardest part for me is finding the stuff to make it LOL. you may have to dose a little more than you would using B-ionic, but its so much cheaper you could care less.

I've been using it a couple of months with good results. Try a pool supply store. You may have to buy it in 50 pd bags but it's relatively cheap and lasts a long time.

The Alk part can be bought in a pool store - it's the same chemical that I use to raise the alk in my pool. The calcium part can be bought in any supermarket.

I've use it and it works great! I use Prestone Driveway Heat for the calcium part and baked, baking soda for alkalinity. Recipe #1. I figure it will cost me about $7 per year for me to use this system vs $15 per month with B-Ionic. Definitely worth it.

You can get Prestone Driveway Heat at any Home Center, Walmart, even Walgreens in my area.

You can get Dowflakes and Magflakes online at www.buckeyefieldsupply.com. We're about halfway through our first gallons, so we haven't dosed Mg yet, but it's simple.

Our pH is < 8.3, so we use Recipe #1. The most difficult part was mixing the baked baking soda in RO water. Significant stirring. Certainly not insurmountable, though.

Need a little time and monitoring to fine-tune the dosage to your depletion rate. Dr. Holmes-Farley recommended starting at 1mL per gallon and adjusting from there.

Go for it!

Actually the Cal part is bought at a pool store. The Alk part is just baking soda. It should also have a higher concentration than B-Ionic, therefore dosing=less.

i think you got those backwards. Calcium Chloride can be found at pool supplies sometimes. the alk part is Baking Soda, which can be found at any supermarket.

i ended up using Prestone Driveway Heat as well. i found a 9lb jar for $9. theres enough for probably 10+ batches. the baking soda should be easy to find for you.

Yes, sorry I got them backwards. That's what happens when you're at work and on RC and trying not to get caught
